In isolation the Hickey trade is fine, the fact is that he will be the best ruckman on our list by a significant margin. Even though he will be 30 by the time the season starts, he doesn't have many miles on the clock due to his inability to hold down the no 1 ruck spot at 3 other clubs.
It doesn't say much about our list management that we've managed to get ourselves into this position in the first place.
I hope we draft someone like Sam Walsh’s brother this year.Comment

I'm going to move on and say welcome to Tom. His highlights package looks great and the overwhelming feeling from Weagles fans (some of the toughest in the country) is that he's a good player who will be missed. Being stuck behind Natanui is no shame. I think at very least he will push Sinclair to play better and in all likelihood, will be our number 1 ruck.
Aliir I will miss. Love the spectacular things he does on the field. Off the field, he is a fantastic ambassador for modern Australia. I hope he kicks on at PA and finally fulfills his potential there.
Bring on the draft!Comment

And there are posters on here who somehow believe that the club is incompetent for not having offloaded Gray for pick 6 and Lewis Taylor for pick 10. Aliir was never ever going to get a first round pick and it remains to be seen whether he is a constant in Ports best 22. He never established himself as rock solid in ours. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

While he is a great clubman, the chances of Naismith playing let alone being a good ruckman again are very slight, injury history, games played, yrs on list and age are all very much against him.
Id be surprised if he isnt delisted and in the coaching team before the end of the year.
Ill hold further fire til i see what they do today.....will be very dark if 24 yr old Hewett gets walkedComment

The club must believe that McCartin is the future CHB for the club, and so Allir could be seen as unnecessary, and therefore we should maximize his trade value which is right now as he's in his prime age.
Port made the prelim this year, and their age and new recruits like Allir mean they are probably going to be in a prelim next year. So a 2021 2nd round pick we get is is pick 33, bumped out by a few academy/fs to,say, pick 36.
I would rate Allir's market value at between pick 20 and 25. KPD dont grow on tree's.
Port have got a bargain, and we look to have jumped at an unfavourable trade to make the Hickey trade come off.
It does seem panicked but that may be because we simply couldnt get any of the other ruckmen avaliable to even consider us. We arent exactly a destination club anymore.
Hickey also seems an odd choice. He isnt going to be playing in our next premiership, he's 30 already, and his best days are behind him. Who is our next premiership ruckman?
oh well.Comment

Dare question something and they are also the loudest shouting you down.Comment

It seems Allir was pretty keen to move on, and we accommodated him.
In order to help out our ruck problem, we utilised his will to get to PA to facilitate the getting of Hickey, who will obviously improve our non existent ruck division.
Also picked up points to help lock in our two Academy lads.
And still have pick 3.
I'm not unhappy at all.Comment

No not two players. We’d be giving up Hewitt to have first dibs on Logan who is described by most as a once in a generation player. No doubt better than those who will be available at pick 3.
Pretty obvious that sacrificing a handy tagger to get Logan would be a no brainer."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

So if McCartin (junior) plays CHB, do we have a CHF? Blakey looked a lot better on ball or on a wing, so maybe we are seriously consider McCartin Snr and/or a KPF in the draft after all?
I do have a strong preference for something that looks like a functioning forward line in 2021. And I don't have high hopes for Buddy being on the park all that much next year....Comment
