The academy system really is a big advantage for us. It's only bloody buddy's contact that has caused us to fall down the ladder ( by losing other players,)
I would say we missed out on being able to pick up some quality players from other clubs. To me Nankervis was our biggest loss/mistake. He has endured while our ruck stocks have gone south rapidly. I thought from the first pre season game he played that we had a ready made footballer.

Over the years Twomey has proven to be the most accurate, probably because that is his job and he gets access of some sort to all clubs, particularly Vic clubs you'd reckon.

Most of the other Phantoms are just journalists who produce a Phantom because their editor asks for one. Some of the rankings in those are laughable from what I can glean. They probably look at Twomey's, then move a few around so it doesn't look like plagurism.

Twomey's recent article "Fab Five" McDonald, Thilthorpe, Hollands, DGB & Phillips indicated that clubs thought there was a gap to the next group of players. Add JUH at the top and that means six selections before a Campbell bid is likely.

My bet is pick 7, the first of Dodo's picks, is likely the highest we'll see Campbell, or Dodo may select players at 7 & 8 before creating a little mischief by bidding first on Campbell at 9, then on Port's Jones at 10, before using his last pick at 11.

I think this year is going to be way more unpredictable than usual, because clubs have to try and work out a way of assessing the relative merits of the Victorian draftees versus those that have played. Each club will do things differently. And potentially drafting a VIC kid is a higher risk than drafting one from SA, WA or even NSW

I watched a couple of highlights of Campbell. His kicking is a thing of beauty.
I'm looking forward to him breaking through the middle of the SCG and kicking one from 60.

The main worry with Campbell is Hawthorn. He seems like the sort of player they love.

Yes, it would really do a number on the draft picks we need to draft Gulden. We should have plans to cover this, but I hope these are not needed.

Don’t forget out brilliant first rounder Josh Willoughby and someone O’Keefe that NO-ONE rated in the top 40...that was pick 15 well spent ????

probably need another 350 pts for Campbell if the Hawks go for him at pick 4

I would say it is at least 50 / 50 that the Hawks go for Campbell

i know i have raised it before but Oscar does provides us depth in a key role and now delisted nothing but a contract ?......... and a small one at that.

AA gone an experienced KPP would give us flexibility in the backline for depth........definitely no worse then Brands prior performances at the Hawks and Brand has been injured most of 2020

Hawthorn would have pick 5 by the time they get to use it. If they had pick 4 they're bidding on JUH.

gulden is intriguing also with GWS having 5 bites to ensure a great mix of players unless they packaged into an earlier pick. GWS could go for Gulden at pick 15 or pick 20 which is 200pts difference for us

                          gws - 10, 13, 15, 20, 29

A few things to consider here.
                            1. At this point in time, we have no list spots available if list sizes are in fact cut to 44.
                            2. Does it make sense to bring in a discarded depth player from another club when we already have a lot of depth in the key defender position?
                            3. We have a similar sized player in Kaiden Brand who has only played 2 games for us since being recruited. He looked okay, but was limited due to injury. Let's see how he goes for depth in his position.
                            4. This goes for drafting DGB as well. Do we want to bring in another key defender when we have yet to try Gould or O'Connor in similar roles?

Let's try the ones we already have on our list before we go out and add some more depth. We have both player numbers and salary limits. Depth does not go on forever.

It seems to be becoming lore among footy journalists that we're drafting DGB. Hard to know whether it's reportage or join-the-dots speculation.

I do think DGB is different to Gould and O'Connor, though. I think he'd play on the opponent's number 1 forward. That's a role Melican or McCartin might play (and Rampe has, although undersized). DGB is taller than all of them. So I do think he offers us something we don't quite have.
