Hollands was in my view BOG in the all stars game last year (ahead of Campbell) but I wouldnt take him as he is a similar style of player to him as well and we would be better placed to vary our recruits to include one of the higher rated big guys.Comment

WILL PHILLIPS HIGHLIGHTS | 2020 AFL Draft Prospect - YouTube
This is an extended package for Phillips and wow, it’s pretty bloody impressive. He’s tough, quick , uses it well by hand and foot, and wins contested ball at will. Tackling machine and tough to tackle to boot.
Would walk straight into our starting side next year and would complement our young midfield mix well. Phillips and Rowy the contested beasts (although not plodders) , Stephens & Campbell inside /outside hybrids with elite foot skills, gulden the outside accumulator, Blakey and J MAC the outside flyers with foot skills. I’ve probably missed some but that looks like a really good mix and a relatively quick midfield unit. Hollands would also add nicely to the mix as an explosive big bodied forward / mid.
Sure we need talls and if one of the top two rated are available it will be a tough choice, but we’ve got a pretty great opportunity to build a pretty special engine room that should serve us well into the future.Comment

If Tilthorpe and McDonald are gone (regardless of who is picking ahead of us) we should take the 'best' available player, which should land us a midfielder with gun potential. I'd be happy in hindsight with Hollands, Tilthorpe or McDonald after watching their highlight packages.
David Noble interviewed by the AFL didn't rule out trading pick 2 for a spread of picks, they do have a lot of vacancies to fill!

Can someone enlighten me. I think if its right with thurlow, we still need to delist 3 to account for our draftees with the loss of aa and thurlow and the addition of hickey the primary list = 40. (37 is the total for primary list I think). Are the 3 left on the rookie list (MClean, Bell and Amety) still ok for this list. and can we transfer 3 from main list to rookie list (havenot counted ET yet as a deletion.
THANKS
”The maximum list size for next year have been reduced from 47 to 44 which includes the ability to list up to two Category B rookies.
The minimum list size for each club will be 37, which can be made up by as little as 36 senior listed players and one rookie.
To reach 44, clubs can carry 36-38 senior listed players, four-to-six Category A rookies and two Category B rookies.”

Guys like Bell and Wicks will find it hard to get a fair shot at AFL footy. They might be good enough to play AFL, but they may not got a fair shot at the Swans and without much of an AFL record, are unlikely to get picked up by another club.Comment

Yes. They chose Ling, who has a higher potential ceiling. Fair enough.Comment

“I think David’s wealth of experience, diversity of experience, maturity, his ability to lead and create a whole football program probably set him apart from others.
“Realistically, David’s got two to three years to really get us into a position where we’re competing regularly in the top four and ultimately looking to win a premiership.
hmmmmm.......nice trajectory and ambitious rebuild in 2 to 3 yrs ?
i wonder if we have the same ambition to be a top 4 team by end of 2022 beginning of our 2023?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I've talked myself into believing that Hollands is much more than just a midfielder, so I won't mind if we take him. Phillips is good, but we will already have too many young midfielders. We will have to trade one or more of our better mids out if we draft Phillips. That's my only objection. Too many good mids; not enough spots.

I strongly believe we take best available at 3, whoever that may be.Comment

* Brisbane Lions - 1998 wooden spoon, four grand finals for three flags 2001 to 2004.
* Hawthorn - 2005 14th/16, premiership 2008.
I think our trajectory will be a little slower, but we're not that far off being a good side again. We had several narrow losses to top sides including the two Grand Finalists by a combined total of 14 points."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment
