If Parker and Hewett do go, we still have a good midfield. Would mean Heeney needs to get off a half forward flank and play on ball.

Mills, Warner, Heeney as our starting 3 and then JPK, Rowbottom, McInerney, Papley also rotating through.

Would also be good to see Gulden and Campbell get more time on ball.

Future would still look bright. We are nothing like Collingwood!

Better sign up Parker ASAP. Neale apparently wants back to Freo, Lions will be looking for a replacement and will be armed with a bucket of cash. If I was Fagan, Parker would be the first guy I call. Perfect replacement for Neale, both in style and culturally.

Every year there are a couple of big moves that unlock a lot else. If Neale was on the move, that’d be one of them as Brisbane are in the window and won’t just be wanting draft picks. Not saying it’s Parker; it could be one of the Hawks mids given the Dorks want draft picks.

As for the Swans, I ain’t jumping at shadows just yet. I don’t doubt our cap is tight. But, we’re traditionally a club that airs very little and it may be as simple as we’re waiting for the new CBA to be signed before making final decisions and offers.

For a long while now we have always taken plenty of time to make post-season list changes, so I don't think it is particularly unusual compared to any other year.

I think this is largely true for delistings but I don't remember us being this tardy for re-signings of players in the ilk of Parker or Dawson or even, for that matter, a high draft pick like Stephens. If, indeed, we are waiting for the CBA to be finalised, it would be nice if the club actually said that.

For the record, I actually am still confident that we re-sign Parker, Dawson, and Stephens.

No announcement from the AFL on next years TPP so clubs are being cautious and waiting until they have a definite fugure to work with.

There really are some almost hysterical posts on here about mismanagement of our TPP. How about we don't take the media click bait and just wait and see what is happening. Trade period is still weeks away and the TPP will need to be announced before then.

The club doesn't have to, nor has it ever to my knowledge commented on the state of our salary cap. The only clubs that do comment are bottom dwellers boasting about having "war chests" to poach players.

The cap tends to get reset every five or six years to give clubs a long-life view of what they are working with.

I heard Tom Petroro (one of the player agents) interviewed yesterday. Apparently, the pay cut players took last year has to be absorbed in this year's salary cap. He mentioned a figure of approx $700K on average per club. The impact of that, plus the unknown salary cap figure, must make it difficult for the clubs to be planning their player contracts for the future. I wouldn't be panicking about our situation just yet.

I was thinking of the same thing, Ralph, when I heard this stunning news from Brisbane. For the first time, I think we are a real chance to lose Parker as they will potentially have the money, need and attraction for him to make the move. He would also be moving to a Club that is in its premiership window. We desperately need to find the money now to keep him. Mind you it will be hard for Freo to get that deal done as Neal still has 2 years left on his contract and Brisbane will want a lot for him.

Neale has played 3 years of a 5 year contract and he and his partner want to go back to Perth. Talk about a mercenary. Probably reckons he is worth more Laurie Nash now. If I was Brisbane I would be nailing Freo to the cross on this one and extracting as much blood as they can. If Cerra has half a brain he would be going to Brisbane rather than the perennial rabble he is supposedly connected to.

Yes, there is a lot of water to go under the bridge in the potential Neale deal. Apparently, Brisbane are totally in the dark over these reports which is pretty poor if true. If you want to leave at least have the guts to first tell your Club face-to-face. Brisbane have given him an excellent deal, a strong team to play in and they gave up a lot of draft picks to get him. They deserve better.

They would pick up an early pick (number 6) and then bring in Parker to replace Neale. If we lose Parker to Brisbane as a free agent then I assume that we would receive a first round draft selection for him much like Essendon did for Daniher last season?

Before we get all spooky re Brisbane chasing Parker, let's understand how difficult it'll be for Neale to get home.

A) He has only one club to go to, Freo, given WCE have no capacity to trade for him, or pay his salary right now. WCE apparently did a deal with their players last year saying please take the COVID pay cut, and in return, we won't go chasing a big name player.
B) Freo are looking at a 29yo with one option in the west. Brilliant player, but still. They are building a young list, and won't be throwing away the farm for Neale.
C) That gives them a whip hand in negotiations, and no need to offer anything spectacular for him.
D) Brisbane are in a window, have him under contract and will want something special in return.

I can see this playing out like the Papley/Daniher one - where the gap between the main clubs involved in what they want vs what they are willing to offer being a barrier.

That would be pick 13 which will actually be pick 15 after 2 x F/S. Would you trade Parker for pick 15? What would SEN being chatting about if they didn't spend their time seizing on every unsigned player as "in play" to be going elsewhere? Happens every year and in the end most of their "in plays" re-sign where they are. Players don't leave teams in the Premiership window too often.

We are not orphans in tight cap space. The top 9-12 clubs, plus 17th placed Pies will have very little cap space this year.

We do have Buddy dropping $600k in 2022 although that may already have been spent in back ending contracts in previous years.

Trust the club to keep the band together, do not absorb media chat as gospel, it's not worth worrying about at this point in time.
