Sam Edmund increasing his noises about our tight salary cap earlier today on SEN, referring our situation as Collingwood 2.0. Claims we have no room to move and that Hewett seems likely to go as club haven't even started contract negotiations with him. He also claimed club has tabled contract offer to Dylan Stephens but hasn't been doing cart wheels to indicate he'll re-sign anytime soon.
I'm assuming Sam is getting his info from various player managers rather than directly from the players or club. Someone had posted earlier that the AFL has yet to announce next year's cap, which we may well be holding things up for us?
Sam has repeatedly made point that Buddy's contract can't be renogiated being a RFA (hope this is the same with all the other RFA's like Tom Lynch, Dangerfield, Cameron etc....). If our cap is that tight, is it feasible for club to approach Heeney & renogiated his final year of contract next year which is reportedly near vicinity of $900k? We could offer to front load his next contract with a bit extra as compensation to help club get out of current pickle?
I'm sure the current players would like to stick together for at least the next few years?
