They can hand over their first round pick if they want him.

He’s not from SA anyway. He’s a Mildura boy and the family are on record as saying they love the Swans.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

This is what the Herald Sun had to say about our re-signing prospects today:

"Tom McCartin re-signed long ago for two years, while category B rookie Marc Sheather also inked a two-year extension. Negotiations are progressing for Parker, while Sydney is keen to keep Dawson, who has interest from both Adelaide teams. Hewett is one to watch and there is a chance he won’t be in red and white in 2021. Reid is weighing up his future after another frustrating injury run, but Wicks could re-sign for up to two years. There is no news yet for 2017 top-15 pick Ling, Bell is close to hitting a trigger and Sinclair is on hold until season’s end. McLean will need to be patient, too."

Sheather given two more years means we are optimistic about his trajectory, I don't recall seeing this announced anywhere but it may have slipped my mind.

Of course these type of articles in the press are just a grab bag of general rumours, there's often no substance to them. Journo's always roll out the go home stuff, it fills space.

Given there is uncertainty around TPP going forward, it wouldn't surprise me if re-signings are delayed.

It is a great time to be a Swan fan. We have rebuilt on the run with great method and planning. We may not be able to keep everyone but we have a mix of high draft picks and rookie gems coming through with a great age profile.

To me the biggest thing is the unexpected improvement and development- who thought McInerney would be a core player for us after his first game? Imagine if Blakey continues his recent form and becomes a top 3 player for us? That elevates the team incredibly.

Players leaving is a fact of life but compare our last few years with other teams (west coast paying too much for tim Kelly / Saints overpaying for Hill and Hanners / Hawthorn and Geelong gambling on top ups to keep runs going etc). We have Bud’s 1000th to look forward and then a team that can contend for a good few years only 5 years after last grand final!

Good. He's probably been my surprise packet of the year. At the start of the season, I would have had him as a 50/50 delist or retain. I liked his strong marking, handy back up ruck work and reasonably reliable kicking, but he didn't seem to have the ability to exert an influence for an extended period. Now he seems to have much better endurance, better pace and better leap. Consequently, he now looks a genuine AFL player.

Not much of a draft hand this year, currently pick 13 and 32.

This will become 15 and 34 after Daicos and Darcy are taken at the very top of the draft, picks 1 and 2 would be ideal given neither Pies or Pups can pay for them with 2021 points at this time. Crows showed how to do it last year, up to Norf and Hawks to also keep them honest, particularly after Beveridge's sooking it up about this possible scenario recently.

Good news that we get to party with Amartey for another two years.

Yes, absolutely no sympathy for Beveridge. Especially after the Dogs scored Ugle-Hagan, because, er, you know, without the great work done by the NGAs, indigenous kids in Victoria would never had dreamed of playing Aussie rules.

Yes so true. The NGAs are a joke and only exist to reduce the whining of the Victorian Clubs.

Yes, though at least they've partially recognised that, with clubs no longer getting any discount, if a NGA prospect is bid on in the top twenty.

It's good to hear it officially. Hopefully we'll keep them coming over the next few weeks.

It's actually they can't match a top 20 bid this year and a top 40 bid from next year. a belated admission from the AFL that NGA's were a poorly thought through idea. A year too late for the Fairy Pups not to hugely benefit.

I don't think any Academy, NGA or F/S draftee should be discounted, surely the ability to match a bid is reward enough.

Do we see first year rookies extended two years very often at this club? To do so you'd think Sheather must be showing a fair bit :-) Hopefully another academy draftee for Maguire to whinge about!
