Yes, there were some rumours about St Kilda being interested in McLean. How true they were, I've no idea. Though I am a bit of a fan of McLean, in that he seems to have been on a gradual and consistent improvement curve, through hard work. So, I'd like to keep him. Don't think he'll ever be a superstar, but he will be a reliable second tall and ruck chop out.

A business decision was made in the Hannas decision. It proved to be good financially for Hannas as he got some extra years of money and the Swans medical staff have been proven correct in their long term prognosis of his body.

Those who call Neale a mercenary should always remember that Hannas was shopped around by the club and let go when he didn’t initially wand that.
None of that has anything to do with my point.

Its been clear for some time that our key priorities for re-signing were Parker, Dawson, Hewitt and Stephens. As time goes on, it seems increasingly likely that all of these may walk. This will significantly set back our progression toward being a contender and sends an unfortunate message to our other players. Where do we go from here if our worst case scenario becomes reality?
I sense that re-signing Hewett is probably not a priority at all to be honest. I suspect the call (rightly or wrongly) to make him the 'sacrificial lamb' was probably made quite early on. Part of the rationale for that being that if he doesn't get really good interest elsewhere (unlikely but not out of the question), we may be able to hang on to him on relatively low dollars, and if he does go it will open up $ not only for immediate priorities, but for the host of players we have to re-sign next year too. I would be really disappointed to see him go, but can see both the importance for him to maximise what $ he can get, and for the club in finding a way to balance the books too. Can not keep them all, no matter how hard one tries.

In terms of Stephens - we should make him a reasonable (but fairly low ball) offer and leave it at that. If he wants to go, then let him go. I suggest his situation is probably quite closely tied to what happens to Hewitt. If Hewett goes and there will be more opportunities for Stephens and he will stay. While Stephens clearly has potential, he wasn't even close to a first team regular this year - i.e. he is still very much in the development phase where his overall ability to be highly successful at AFL level is very much an unanswered question.

I still expect Parker and Dawson will stay, despite all the media coverage. Certainly I can not see an outcome where we will lose both, unless both come out and say they want to leave the club - which to me seems an unlikely outcome. Dawson may well want to return to SA and ask for that, but I suspect Parker will only leave if we don't get close to any other offers he makes, rather then demanding an exit.

The AFL could make life for all the clubs a lot easier by pulling their finger out and making a call on the salary cap however. I think that is a key factor why this is all still dragging on a bit.

And while I have no doubt about the substantial impact losing Parker and Dawson would be, I don't think Hewett or Stephens would necessarily represent departures that would make much of a difference in our progression. Hewett is a very under-rated player in my opinion, but he isn't irreplaceable, and we aren't short of midfield talent (clearly his best role) that will be demanding more and more first team time. And Stephens remains but a fringe player at this point - we will draft in another midfielder and probably not be much behind where we were to be honest.

So here is my question re Lachie Neale ; Is he an essential worker? if not, he shouldn't be allowed to enter WA.

On this point, I am going to contact Gladys later today and insist she passes a new law through state parliament giving the Swans
the absolute power to declare certain players "essential workers in Paddington" which will make it impossible for them to be traded
or to leave the club. I'm looking at you, Luke Parker and Jordan Dawson.

Clubs still don't have a TPP figure for next year, that's what is holding up contracts when you suspect you have a tight cap situation. No need for unnecessary nervousness, we'll get them signed once the TPP is known.

It's nice that Parker has signed on now but the big one we need is Dawson.

Dawson has more future All Australian's in him than Parker.

Luke Parker just text me. He asked me to check my email with some exciting news. No email has come through as yet.

Is he selling a house he’s flipped?

Just out of idle curiosity, did anyone else get a text, apparently from Luke Parker, that said "Hey, got some exciting news 4 you! Check your email", but with no accompanying email?
