Horrible news. One of my favourite Swans too

Considering he was offered a long term deal, maybe we can afford to keep some other players like Hewett and Stephens

      But sheesh, this hurts

Have to admit this one is pissing me off. Unless there’s extenuating circumstances, the “closer to family” line is ridiculous for a 24 year old.

I’m would be interested to see Tom Morris’s take on Dawson. Was it family or did the good money go to Parker?

People seem to have dulled themselves into a false sense of security that Melbourne based AFL journalists are always incorrect.

Extremely disappointed to hear about Jordan wanting to go home, BUT the world is a pretty @@@@ing weird place right now and I do not begrudge any young person wanting to be closer to their family (I'm happy to take it at face value). I can't imagine how much harder the last couple of seasons has been for people in AFL teams based in NSW than it has been for those in SA (or WA, or QLD), and it's not something the AFL could magic with some type of equalisation.

Best of luck to him, I hope he has a wonderful career and life. May his only poor outings be against us.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Very disappointing news, but opens up opportunities for us in terms of list management.

Still wouldn't be suprised if they let Hewett walk too, though would expect we should be able to keep Stephens now (if we want to).

I hope Port are seriously interested so we can get some leverage to get something half decent back for him with the two clubs bidding off against each other.

We better get something good this time. A future third-round pick for Dawson is not going to cut it.

Doubt it. He has to agree to a trade

I hope we dig in at the trade table. Port currently just have pick 17 and a few late picks. Adelaide have more to offer.

                            Terrible, shocking news.

Adelaide's pick 4 the absolute minimum for a dude whose third place in the best and fairest was just the start.

                              Me too.

All about 'going home' is the narrative in the media - we offered him a very good deal by the sounds of it. Disappointing to hear what he had to say just last week at the B&F then to come out with this now. But I've never completely understood the desperate 'yearning' that a lot of exceptionally well paid footballers have to be 'closer' to family - especially when a fair chunk of them will still be 3 hours down the road! Its not that I don't get the want to be able to visit family and be relatively close - but its not like (COVID aside of course) they are badly placed to make that happen even if they all don't like in close proximity. Anyway that is what it is.

So frustrating after getting him just to the point where we would get genuine return on significant investment into his development. What a waste if he goes to the Fruit Tingles however (noting that would probably be the best outcome for us trade wise). They are still a fair way off competing for anything for mine, although he would be a great addition to their team.

I reckon we could extract Port's in exchange for our second potentially (and maybe a bit more - their 2nd rounder next year as well perhaps?), which wouldn't be a bad outcome. Can't see the Fruit Tingles giving up pick 4 however. Could perhaps extract their first pick next year + a 2nd rounder this year perhaps if we bargain hard.

Knowing how we often seem to just bend over and take it, 2nd rounder it is lol.

"Given we have only learned the news this afternoon, we will take some time to work through the Club's options leading into the trade period," Gardiner said.

So, for those of us who have never followed trading season very carefully (it is what it is, we can't change the outcome ... maybe stoicism, maybe pessimism, but not indifference), what range of options does the Club have?
