We'll take pick 6 from Adelaide thanks.

This hurts more than any other player to ask for a trade in recent memory. For a lot of reasons. Mostly that he's so talented and has a huge future.
We might one of Ports rucks? We asked last year or that AA defender of theirs?

Agree. We'll never get pick 4 off them which sucks because they don't have another pick that I feel is worthwhile... we are going to get screwed again unfortunately. [emoji22]

I really hope we play hard ball on this. He is a proven top player coming into his prime years. He is worth a top ten pick for sure. Let's see what happens.

Really disappointed hearing the Dawson news especially after the time we spent developing him. This is the perfect example why we need the Academy. I'm going to miss those beautiful passes ?.

I’m absolutely gutted. This is a disaster.

We had Dawson a few months ago but clearly low balled him. The closer to family reason is just something to say instead of “he is leaving because we don’t value paying him”.

            Shocking list management. Absolutely pathetic.

Not necessarily precisely on pick 4, but if some of the trades of recent years are indicators, a bloke who’s one of the best kicks in the comp, can play third defender, backline release and wing, stellar mark, 20 quality possessions a game and coming into his prime, then a late first round pick and average second ruck ain’t it.

The counter of course is the Swans are practical traders. Just think this is one where both Adelaide clubs will be desperate to get him for different reasons (Adelaide, he’s young and massive list improvement; Port, premiership window) and we can play the market hard.
It’s not really about what he’s worth. There’s some cachet with Top 5 picks that mean they seldom get traded unless it’s for a real superstar. Now I’m as big a fan of Dawson as anyone here but he’s not at that status yet (although he has the potential to be might follow in the footsteps of Mitchell and Aliir to become AA after leaving us)

I dont agree. If he was really about maximising his return, then why wouldn't he sign a 2 year extension now (at money relatively close to what he will get in Adelaide - multiple media sources suggesting our offer was fairly generous) and then move as a free agent, where he can probably demand a significant premium compared to what he will get moving now as Fruit Tingles/Port wouldn't have to give anything up for him from a trade perspective.

While I really don't see the family reason as strong 'justification' in the modern footy world, in this case its probably not entirely far from the trugh, all things considered.

What's Jake Kelly like? Heard he was looking to leave Adelaide. Maybe he could be in a trade with Dawson?

You are assuming that we agreed to give him a 2 year deal. We might have only offered 3 or 4 an fit was heavily backended.

Also given our cap issues we would have peanuts to pay him next year. Take the money when you can.

Whilst I wish he had stayed I am not as disappointed as some with Dawson leaving. I think a lot depends on what we get in return. Also whilst I think he is a very good player I also think he is more replaceable than a good key position player.

I'd be astounded if we only offered him a 4 or 5 year contract, and didn't offer him at least something relatively palatable to take him up to free agency - you may not think so, but I think our recruitment staff are not completely stupid, and would recognise the relative drivers of the free agency world we now operate in.

I disagree. He's a future All Australian. Absolute class in every major skill, clutch and an emerging leader. Just finished third in a b&f for a finals team.

Dylan Shiel was two first rounders. Pick 4 is fair.

It’s amazing how underrated Dawson is by some.

Losing Aliir has made us look stupid. That will be nothing compared to this.
