We need to look at this draft and note that the players available at pick 4 are midfielders. Adelaide don't want to give it up and we really don't need it. I'm not interested in pick 4. I would have liked PAs pick 16 though.

The real action for us starts at around pick 10. We have pick 12/14 which should be right to land us a good KPP prospect. There will also be several good KPPs and ruckmen available in the 2nd round.

If we can get Adelaide's 2022 1st rounder, I would be interested in that in lieu of 2nd rounders.

We have to realise that losing Aliir and Dawson has made it difficult for us to seriously compete for a premiership next year, and probably 2023 as well, against a few of the more mature teams. We can't go all out for a premiership next year, but rather have a draft and trade strategy that targets a few years down the road when players like Gulden, Campbell and McDonald are in their 4th years as AF:L players.

I'm not saying a premiership is impossible, but it's smarter to play the odds and go with the long game.

Hmm the focus on what we got him for is a calculated PR exercise designed to soften the low ball trade offer the club is about to receive. If Dawson is true about going home for family reasons he should be calling for the Crows to shape a trade reflective of his value like Dangerfield did when he could have walked on free agency.

I would accept that too. Unfortunately, I doubt that Adelaide will do that deal. Our bargaining position is weak and they know that. They know we won't let him walk to the pre-season draft. We can try to bring Port back into the bidding but no guarantees it will work. I think its most likely we will get their pick 23 for him.

Many Swans supporters really wouldn’t wish success for any other side as realistically it’s at the expense of the Swans (there are a few exceptions on here who seem to have a soft spot for GW$, but they are a minority). So wishing 3 years of failure upon any football side not adorning red and white isn’t unreasonable

While thuggery isn’t generally condoned, there are some older supporters who lament the lacking physicality of the modern game and wouldn’t be adverse to an opponent receiving some physical treatment (Dawson or otherwise).

Dawson has given us good service. Great service. He’s been paid accordingly and adored accordingly. Once/when/if he leaves, he owes the club nothing and likewise the Swans supporter base owes him nothing. He’s really just another player who we need to nullify on the day to take the 4 points

But I’ll leave it to the Devine wisdom of Ludwig and TB to adjudicate this debate as they are all knowing on all things football and RWO should be bowed down to, with some appropriate sacrifice made to them

My feelings about Dawson are disappointment. I'm sad that he's not going to be with the Swans next year. But I really don't think it's proper to go beyond that, since we don't know the circumstances involved in the contract negotiations. Some folks on our side of the table may not have handled it properly, they may have insulted Dawson, they may have lied to him. Who knows? Dawson may have had some valid reasons for wanting to leave, other than money or the go home factor, but perhaps a much better monetary offer from Adelaide, plus family pressure to return to SA, might have pushed him over the line. And then of course there's always the manager/agent, who would be pushing for the deal that earns him the biggest commission.

With Kane Cornes and Michaelangelo Rucci out there in Adelaide, I'll bet the questions will be asked. Whether they get answered or not is anyone's guess.

If they are in ur team and u have enough depth and injuries go ur way - it's foot to the floor in 2022

A couple of the right trade ins and or keepers and we are a top4 in 2022

I have a different view. I want all former Swans to do well and I wish the best for them. Wishing the Crows won’t do well only disrespects Matthew Nicks who gave great service to the Swans as a player.

I can’t comprehend the bitterness towards Dawson.

People can change direction. They may say they want to do one thing and then change their minds.

The Australian Government signed the AUKUS pact and now will getter better nuclear submarines than the diesel French submarines. Many people call off engagements because they realise that something is not right with their fiancé. In the I’m Unimformed world, Australia would get poorer submarines and many people would go into ill-advised marriages.

I think fans should show the upmost for former players and coaches. When TB12 and Gronk return to Gillette Stadium on the 4th of October to play The Patriots they will both receive an almighty cheer and much love from the crowd. I suggest people watch that game and take note of the reaction as TB12 runs through that tunnel.

I too, am disappointed that his attempt at reassuring us (that we had nothing to worry about) ended up being the opposite.

I don't share the degree your pessimism about competing next year, although our tall defence is too thin and we really need another reliable tall defender.

Don’t agree Ludwig. We exceeded expectations this year and lost our final by the smallest margin and which we could have won. Barring serious injuries, which may be a tall ask, I think we have the team to compete for a flag next year. An incremental improvement from our young players plus either Paddy or Sammy to bolster the defence and main problem solved. Buddy staying fit and Logan at full forward- I can see it!!

In reality, its probably just going back to what the original strategy was in terms of the 'premiership window'. I doubt most even internally in the club would have predicted the extent of our rise in 2021.

While Dawson is a significant loss, we have potentially the capability to fairly quickly cover his capabilities if there is a good level of continued progress with other players. There is no obvious 'direct replacement', but in grand terms football is about overall capacity and capability of the entire team.

I think a 2nd rounder this year + one next year is the most likely outcome, and while undervaluing a tiny bit (perhaps) would fit well in terms of likely draft strategy, as you outline above.

Maybe an alternate could be Adelaides 1st rounder next year with a swap of this years 2nd rounders, to get us up a little bit further in the draft order.

Better get used to the idea of something like Adelaide's 2nd round pick for Dawson ,we are not in a position to really press hard. I think this is a flaw in the Free Agency system but .............

There is a young NSW ( Wentworth JFC / Bendigo /Geelong Grammar) kid not getting much of a go at West Coast who might be worth a look. Jarrod Brander ,pick 13 2017 ,195cms and 92kgs ,22 years old ,22 AFL games under his belt for the Eagles. He has been playing both ends of the ground at WAFL level. Out of contract now and told nothing happening until after trade period ,basically look elsewhere young man. Could be a bargain player at low cost ,useful swingman or maybe turn him into a tall defender. Similar size to Tommy Mac .......... maybe worth a look.
