Sick of us being a soft touch at the trade table.

I’d take this year and next years second rounder as a bare minimum
Adelaide's picks: 23, and next year's second round will be around pick 25 or so. Points: 1571 (pick 8 is 1551).

Seems about right to me, but that is unlikely to be the end of the trading. There could be a swap of later picks as well, or we could package these picks for a first-round pick from another club.

As for trading, we're not as soft a touch as we may appear. We did not trade out Papley, we did not finalise a trade for Daniher. Player trading is not a single event done in isolation. The list managers work with each other year after year, and being easy to deal with at the trade table brings benefits. Have people forgotten that live pick trade with West Coast that allowed us to draft Rowbottom? Had we been hard to deal with, no way would that pick trade have taken place. (And I'm not entertaining the Rowbottom debate here; my focus here is on the live pick trading.)

I think you might be referring to something i said on here a month or so ago, TB. But you might've misunderstood it.

I said that Rowbottom's eagerness to move interstate combined with West Coast's interest in an inside mid made them very keen on Rowbottom with their pick 25. Unfortunately for the Eagles, we used the pick that they swapped with us to take Rowbottom, and they took another inside mid, Xavier O'Neill, instead with their pick 27. He has not shown anywhere near as much as Rowbottom and even you would have to agree with that.

Now i said that IF Kinnear Beatson knew of West Coast's desire to take Rowbottom, and then used the pick he swapped with West Coast to steal Rowbottom from under their nose, then that would be quite frowned upon. Brilliant and genius, but frowned upon all the same. I think it is more likely that Beatson, who is well respected across the entire industry and wouldn't want to burn our clubs' trade bridges with other clubs, didn't know who West Coast wanted to take with that pick, was happy to do the pick swap with them, and it just so turned out - to West Coast's misfortune - that the player they wanted is the player we wanted!

A lesson learned maybe in more in-depth communication between two clubs completing a pick swap, perhaps. But certainly i don't believe anyone was deliberately shafting anyone.

This feels rather pointless to argue. It's clear we view the game differently. Only that one of the views of shared by the match committee. Happy to leave it here.
I’m happy too, Runner. I wish Wicks the very best and as you say the MC has picked him consistently. Let’s hope he does well for us next year.

I also believe it allowed us to pick up McInerney, whom we wanted. Well that's what Ludwig told me so it must be right.

Bit rough.. plays second fiddle to Papley as small forward. Just starting out and will get better. Pace and pressure very handy.

I know it's easy to get distracted within a thread but this is the trade/drafting thread, discussions about other clubs should be in another thread like General off-season footy chat

This week's sliding doors speculates that JD's value is somewhere between pick 4 and 23, and praises the contract extension for McLean.

Well I think that most of us would agree with that! Getting Adelaide to cough up appropriate compensation for Dawson will be the challenge for us. Let's hope a fair deal is done.

It’s an interesting potential negotiation. If we could block JD getting to the Crows via the PSD (I don’t know if Stuart Dew or John Blakey would oblige) then we’ve got them over a barrel. And if we can get Port to make a better offer there’s that too.

I think the Cerra deal or Tim Kelly wouldn’t be bad as starting points.

Would not surprise me at all if we have one eye on the future this trade period and will just go to the draft. Bank some cap space for 2023

Darcy Moore could well be gettable as a free agent next year. Still only 26 next year. With McCartin, Logan would provide a core spine for next 5 years.

IMHO if Darcy Moore joined us for the 2022 season our trajectory to top4 while Kennedy and Bud are still with us would be quite compelling

A player like Darcy enables so much flexibility with our game plans and would enable our backline to be even more attacking !!!
