Any interest for Jayden Hunt from Melbourne for pick 72.

Great pace and dash and would suit our game plan. Fast paced right footer running with J-Mac would be exciting.

I’ve been through PSD records back to before 2000 and NOT ONCE has a club poached a player wanting to go elsewhere. This has included Roos, Lockett (come back) Craig Bolton, Bradshaw, Tippett, Houli, as well as the last couple who have gone to the Blues. So if Dawson goes there this year we lose him for nothing nothing surer. Most years now virtually no teams even participate.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

Even if he were, it still wouldn't work like that. No club can force a player to stay with them just by matching a contract offer from another club - not unless that player is still under contract. If a player is a restricted free agent, a club can match a bid and thus stop the player walking to the other club for nothing. But that player can still delist themselves as soon as their contract expires and nominate for either the National or Pre-Season draft.

I'm developing some PTSD regarding this PSD talk.

I really don't think it is a reasonable or at all likely prospect.

I just subjected myself to 3min 26sec of Adelaide radio interviewing Ricciuto. Phew. It was a leading question, he was speaking speculatively/generally, and he tried to walk it back as applied to the Dawson deal when he realised what was going on (2m 23). I really don't think it was a pre-planned message or threat or whatever.

I think the key bit is this: It’s certainly not the way clubs like to do deals," Roo said of the pre-season draft. "They like to reward the club that had the player."

So far Adelaide seem to have engaged and be willing to do deals to get it done. Kinnear is a smart guy. He's not going to get nothing.

Not sure the no dickheads policy is still in place, but if we do trade for him, I hope Ladhams has learned something from his covid suspension last year.

Exactly!!! I've been saying this for days yet people are still posting that North or GC or whoever might select him! It ain't gonna happen folks, Adelaide know this which is why they will not sell the farm in a deal with us! Let's face it, Jordan has basically screwed us by nominating only them when saying he wanted to "go home"...

I stand corrected now you've brought those two unsavoury characters to front of mind. But they were a long time ago - Russell in 1998 and Stevens in 2003. I suspect that in the last decade or more with tighter lists, clubs rarely considered keeping a list spot open for a potential PSD pick.
Last year the only team to enter the PSD was Adelaide to acquire Hately.
In 2019 there was just Carlton to acquire Martin and the Hawks to get a non-entity.
In 2018 there were no takers
In 2017 just Carlton taking another non entity
In 2016 and 2015 there were no takers
In 2014 there were nine clubs involved but all passed except for Carlton who selected Jason Tutt with pick 2.
In 2013 six clubs left places open but all passed except GWS who took Jeb Lamb with pick one.

The PSD has gone the way of button-up boots and the National Cabinet - dead, but not quite buried. It's now just a blunt and unfair dispute resolution device and not a recruiting tool. In today's climate of club cooperation and protection of goodwill I doubt we'll see any clubs poo another's nest. Somewhere down the line it will come back to bite.

In theoretical terms, North, Suns or hawks would need a lot of salary cap space to accommodate Dawson and would want iron-clad assurances that he would happily join them if selected. (which he wouldn't give).

It is my opinion (FWIW) that if we force him to the PSD, we cut off our nose to spite our face. He'll go to the Crows for nothing. The belief that he'll come back to the swans if a deal can't be sorted out is fanciful unless North is in his ear offering him the world to go to the Kangas and insisting he'll be drafted with pick one. I personally think Dawson is worth Pick 4, but without any bargaining power we won't get it and we'll just have to rely on the crows trying to look professional by offering something reasonable, albeit under value.

It's a pity Dawson didn't follow Dangerfield's and Jeremy Cameron's lead in insisting something decent was delivered to the club that had drafted them (in Dawson's case when he scraped into the back end of the draft) and put him in the position to demand big bucks.

I don't think Adelaide want to take Dawson to the PSD. It doesn't look good doing it 2 years in a row. I would think that TLA, who say they represent 28% of the AFL players, would also like to be on good terms with the Swans. I think they would be pushing for Adelaide to do a fair deal as well. Everyone knows that Adelaide are coming out a winner in this trade, but it's not in anyone's interest to embarrass the Swans, who have long been fair traders. I don't think Dawson will be looking forward to the welcome he gets in his next game in Sydney.

The statement above relating to Dawson only nominating Adelaide as has always been a point of contention with me with pre-agents.

Can someone clear up for me please, whether we're now only obliged to deal wiitb deal Adelaide considering Dawson is not a RFA? I thought this was only applicable to RFA? This has been a grey area of mine for a while now.

If Port offer us better trade deal & exceeds Adelaide's contractor offer for Dawson, taking into consideration it also meets his go home to SA desire, can he still reject Port"s offer? If so, what is the point of RFA if pre-agent players can force their clubs to deal witb only 1 club?

Wouldn't be fair to say that play managers do have a chat with the teams that have the top couple of picks in a PSD and inform the player and the inbound club ?

Ie wouldn't it be fair to say Adelaide, Dawson and Dawsons manager would be well aware of what say North will most likely do in the event of Dawson going to the PSD?

If also the Swans have done similar then all parties realise fairly quickly what will need to be achieved via a trade.

I thought this has been happening for decades and would have been reflected via the majority of players getting where they wanted to via via a trade ........and henxe the PSD rarely used as a plan B ?

We got Tippett in the pre-season draft and everyone passed on him and left him to us. The reason other clubs did this was that he put a big price on his head and left him alone.

The other clubs assessed his asking price and said no way. Ultimately through the deal hurt the Swans more than anyone. Apart from around 10 good games, Tippett was way overpriced and impacted our salary cap. Mumford ended up being a far more useful AFL player than Tippett and we let him go essentially for Tippett.

Pre-season draft, North will have a good look and Dawson’s price will jump. Good for Dawson but not good for the Crows.

People talk about Jack Martin going for free, but Carlton are paying big overs for his production.

Does anyone think that Adelaide have long memories over the Swans Tippett steal and now are getting their pay back through Dawson. The Crows were really upset at the time for losing Tippett for nothing.
