Sydney are of the view that there has essentially been a blurring of lines between free agency and merely falling out-of-contract. And they are taking a stand on it."

Yep. And what makes the deceitful grifter’s effort even worse is it potentially inhibits our ability to extract the maximum value available, not just for him, but to use on Ladhams if we want him.

They probably have a beachside compound in Robe, and we can offer them a 2br bedsit in Marrickville for the same price (on street parking).

How we feel right now, Adelaide have felt for a decade. It sucks, but it's not the first time this has played out like this.

Jordan - Do you know what there intentions are?

Manager - They haven’t returned my calls and haven’t said anything publicly.

Jordan - I’m getting worried. Should I up the price on my head to deter North and GC.

Manager - I’ve spoken to Adelaide about this and they won’t go higher than X.

Jordan - the offer is good but maybe not enough to deter clubs with salary cap room. My partner and I under no circumstances will entertain going to Melbourne or the Gold Coast. This is my life and career on the line. How can I get some certainty.

Manager - Swans have called me and will offer you two years at xxxx. Still a strong offer after all we’ve been through. Take you to free agency where you can decide what next. They have a good team as well.

Jordan - let me talk to my partner. She knows people in Sydney and likes her job there. I don’t want her to have to start again in GC or Melbourne.

            Headline

            Boomshell, Dawson recommits to Sydney.

Bangalore has been abducted by aliens, so he can be forgiven for not realising that GC just did a salary dump and are out of money and hence, out of the PSD picture.

If the Swans are going to play this game till the end without blinking, then the pressure is upon Dawson as to whether he wants to go to Adelaide through the PSD or re-sign with Sydney for 2 years or more. I'm not there at the negotiations, so can't say whether it's a game worth playing.

I would imagine that the conversations between Longmire and Dawson are part of the assessment as to how we should proceed.

Talking about North and PSD is just a distraction, but if there is anything to see there, then I'm sure Longmire would have let it be known.

Imagine the headlines... Jordan Dawson struggling with depression and mental health issues after VIC club steals him in the pre-season draft! In this politically correct day and age, no club will select a player who clearly does not want to go there. They don't even draft kids these days who publicly state they'd "prefer" to not be drafted by an interstate team (see Bailey Smith and Archie Perkins in recent years).

Except that Robe is approximately equidistant to Melbourne and Adelaide.

People need to realise that sending him to the PSD does little other than satisfy our collective feeling of being diddled. GS sent Martin to the PSD. I don't see any evidence that this "message" altered anyone's impression of them as a tough negotiator.

At the risk of repeating myself, there's no point sending him to the Crows via the PSD. But there is if the Kangaroos will pick him up.

You need to realise that the Swans have a lot more to lose than just Dawson.

Surely a first round pick swap is a good deal for Dawson. Stop posturing crows.
Throw in a few late round pick swaps too if it needs a tweek or two.

                            Sydney in: pick 4
                            Sydney out: pick 14 (?) + Dawson.

                              I’ll make a case.

The Swans are more exposed to the go home factor than 15 other teams.

The Swans have also lost COLA so they are at risk of players going home to cheaper states, even when the same contract is on the table.

Every time that happens and we have to accept a substandard deal, we lose 10 or 15 picks in the draft. The difference between getting a pick 10 that is the best winger/KPD/whatever we want and a pick 25 that ‘might’ come off is significant, and will accumulate over time. We will be uncompetitive.

If other players - and I appreciate the argument may be save it for them - understands we’re prepared to pull the PSD trigger if necessary and they won’t automatically get to where they want, then it can be of benefit.

Otherwise we’re stuck in a doom loop of regression.

As I said, I don’t love it, but that’s an argument, it’s what the Swans management dread and I get it.
