If JD wants gone, he has no obligation to make any such suggestion of “trade or I stay a Swan”. I know you know this, but from JD’s perspective, why should he scuttle a chance of getting where he wants to go just to get a better deal for his former club? It seems he might have tried (or at least said the right words) to get a better deal for the Swans, but the window is closing and now he’s within his right to look out for himself. He really owes the Swan nothing (we developed him for 6 years? He did the yards on the track and he didn’t ask to get drafted by us).

But from our perspective, we might have pushed the envelope as far as we can to get the best out of this terrible situation. We were in weakened position. Let’s just hope that one day, the shoe is on the other foot and we can be absolutely ruthless against the Crows and rip them off to the power of infinity getting a quality player from them. Add the Crows to the lengthy list of clubs I now hate.

I've been trying to give JD as much benefit of the doubt as possible, but I agree with you now. He's left the Swans and a put knife in our back on his way out.

I totally agree! As the line in the movie, "First Wives Club" goes: "Don't get mad, get even". Our day will come, we just need to be patient. In the meantime, let's do the best job we can in extracting something out of this mess.

If we do end up only getting Melbourne's 2022 1st rounder for Dawson, i'll be hoping they do slide next year with some level of guilt. If Melb do end up on top again next year, that pick will slide down even further into.2nd round territory which is really insulting.

I do however have an issue with young fellows who have benefitted from our system to raise their value, wanting to go home before they've even given us a decent trot at their best.....and in these circumstances, it's either Mummy's cooking or their partners wishes that are the driving forces to return. To those cases I say.....grow a set.
            I agree.

I would be looking to engineer some kind of pick trade for Geelong's future first-round pick. Geelong will be the big sliders next year. Not as dramatic as Collingwood, but I don't expect them to finish higher than sixth next year.

So 400K isn't much in normal times, but at the moment the potential $200 or $300K salary saving (if replaced with a bare minimum player) could solve a reasonable chunk of that issue.
Mcdonald or Campbell get 140k plus 5k a match next season

Think you missed my point. By getting rid of one player like that you can solve a 250K hole in the salary cap through one player. Could be much easier to do then getting 5 players to cut 50K, or 10 players to cut 25K, especially if its a player you feel is surplus anyway.

Definitely a lot of black smoke so far!

I feel there is still somethong brewing with Dawson.
I dont think he goes to the Preseason draft, I still hold hope of him being retained in 2022 and beyond. Unless ofcourse the 'Pride of SA' actually cough up an offer that is actually not insulting for what they are actually gaining.

If it’s true they’ve only just upgraded their offer to simply that Melb 2022 pick, no wonder we’ve refused to deal so far and contemplated walking away completely.

I know they have been screwed many times losing players to VIC clubs, but I really hope one day they recruit an excess Academy player who unexpectedly turns into a star and we turn the tables.

You have to wonder if they’re sending a message to all other clubs, trying to deter them in future from drafting SA kids as this is how they’ll behave if one wants to come home.

Question: When does Dawson's current contract with us officially expire?
The reason I'm asking is if we don't broker a deal with the Crows before the end of the trade period (Wednesday 7:30pm), is Dawson still allowed to re-sign with us thereafter before the PSD? If so, this may give us further opportunity to make him get cold feet in nominating for the PSD. Wouldn't put this past the club in the way how this has all transpired & how it must be infuratiating them.

Yes, he can re-sign with us after the draft period closes. I would think that he can re-sign right up to the date when he needs to nominate for the PSD. That's what happened with ROK some years back when he re-signed after a trade to the Hawks could not be negotiated. Its a long shot that he would agree to re-sign unless he sees that there is a big chance Norf are going to take him.

Trading Day on Fox Footy predicting that the JD deal will go down to the trade deadline. That would suggest the Swans won't accept the offer for a future first rounder at this stage.
