Amazingly, Wanganeen-Milera lobs at pick 12, the very pick we gave Port! They surely must take him given the club connections

    So here's some names to watch from rating 13 - Sinn a HB/mid Vic, 14 - Sonsie a mid Vic, 15 - Roberts a fwd/mid SA, 16 - Goater 190cm mid Vic, 17 - Butler fwd/mid Vic, 18 - Chesser mid/def Vic, 19 Van Rooyen KPF/D WA

Other than the number one pick Horne-Francis, the South Adelaide SANFL club also has another two players inside 17, that on top of a number of players taken last year. South haven't won a flag since 1964 but gee they are churning out U18 talent.
Interesting and thanks for the ideas. Will have to take a look.

Beyond surely targeting another young KPD in some form, be interesting to see what else we target with our other live pics (I think we will likely only use the 3). Given Ladhams coming in and the academy ruck prospect potentially next year, can't see us burning any currency in that space. Maybe a half back flanker of some form (to cover for the naughty boy leaving) as a bit of a project player. What else - maybe a midfielder with the third pick?

I reckon we've got quite a lot of outside players that are good kicks (Blakey, Stephens, Campbell, Florent (in theory), JMac etc). As well as KPDs I reckon we could do with another small/medium forward, and another quick/explosive inside mid (which I know don't grow on trees).

Swans should offer Reid a one year deal at minimum wage. He can be a handy depth and back-up for injured players.

After that point, injuries have cruelled him every second season pretty much. But still, statistically 2017 and 2019 were right up there with what he managed in an outstanding year in 2012.

I think its harsh to have a jibe at him being a 'loyal servant' and tying it to his salary, like he hasn't done everything possible to maximise his time on the park. He just hasn't had a whole lot of luck in the 2nd half of his career. Not the first, nor the last for that to happen - but I've seen no evidence in any of that he has been a 'passenger' just trying to collect his paycheck, like some players become as injuries take their toll. His output of course has been impacted, but he has been a loyal servant to the club, and was a key cog of that 2012 grand final winning team. And while its nothing but a 'what if' scenario in the mind, he would of been a very handy in to that team in 2016 as well (and while zero criticism should be given to Xavier Richards and the efforts he put in that year - he wasn't a 10th of the player that Reid was at anywhere near his best form) and we might have seen a different result - perhaps.
Put it this way ; If it's "not right" for Jordan Dawson to leave, then it's "not right" to not give Sam Reid another year. Sure he hasn't turned into
a star and can be frustrating but he's not alone in that dept. He can play anywhere, he's tall, is a good mark and always puts in when he's out
there. He's been a pretty good "average footballer" over the years.

Should we read this as a sign that we will be recruiting Paddy?

We actually have the players who could play KPD, but for one reason or another, it's hard to have confidence that they can fill the role. Melican can't get continuity due to injuries. Gould and O'Connor had truncated seasons due to Covid, but reports on both have been positive.

Adding Paddy would make us pretty deep in defence. And has been mentioned, Reid could be given another year as a backup in defence and forward. We might just go into 2022, hope that Covid is over, and let things sort themselves out.

Slipping from 12 to 16 in the draft may take van Rooyen out of the picture (but may not). Otherwise, if we are looking for a KPD, both Bazzo and Alleer should still be available.

After that, why not target mids. We would have everything else covered.

Has Ladhams been fully briefed that he’ll need to be able to reverse park in Sydney. He may need to park a few streets away to go to the beach.

Will the parking situation have him frustrated and dreaming of an Adelaide return.

Hope his hear with his eyes wide open.

Not sure what Ladhams has to do with the Dawson situation. What's done is done...you could not have done any better yet you squeal 'Terrible'. That's basically kicking the club when they're down.....through no fault of their own.

As I said 'terrible system' in which the Swans have done the best with the cards they are dealt, ie: being lied to and blindsided by a player and then treated like @@@@ by the recipient club while our hands were tied. I'd like to see how you would have handled that situation better. Any suggestions?

I worry that if the AFL don’t do something it isn’t good for the Suns with Lukusios, Rankine and King. It’s been mentioned on the board that there is no longer a place for the PSD in light of the rules around listing a delisted free agent. I agree. If a team needed to use a pick in the National Draft to recruit a target they will bring a more measured reflection on the value of an uncontracted player into their negotiations.

I also agree with Ralph Dawg that I’m unsure Dawson will thrive in the footy bubble of Adelaide like he has in our system. He doesn’t take me as having the steel or the ego it required, particularly when you’ve got Ricciuto and Cornes scrutinising every piece of football related content daily - it’s how they earn a crust.

I don’t post much so I’ll get it all out - happy with the Ladhams trade including the AA for Hickey component. It’s about executing the actions that fit the long term list strategy. Not all of those moves make sense by themselves, but I think in two years time we’ll look back and think it was prudent.

Agree with Ludwig having your players not come out of contact is a pretty important part of executing that strategy. Hopefully the seasons with normalise and the AFL can give greater certainty to clubs about TPP going forward.
Good post.....you should post more often!

So he's too dopey to realise border closures will pretty much be a thing of the past next year, he confirmed he snuck out of town before telling the Swans he was nicking off, and he's still got a crush on a dunderhead like Roo.

                                Good riddance.
