Ive noticed a lot of the Giants media refer to us as South Melbourne now, subtley pushing that "Sydney created, not relocated" line. Cheeky buggers.

To me that's a good thing, they realise we have a history which they don't have or will achieve.

Hmmm maybe. We are going to lose Sydney market share to them if we keep allowing this line.

The players show genuine signs of rivalry, I think the fans are too.

Not just the teams, but the supporters .
Loathing, and it led to some acts on the field that would have the MRP in ears.
IIRC both their grounds smelled like a cow paddock in mid winter.

                True...part of the charm.
But Windy Hill, Prince's Hill and Arden st were not much better.
Ah, the whiff of stinking mud. Loved it.
And when you got on the ground for a kick after the game...up to your knees in it.
I don't realy kow how they could even kick it after a few minutes of each quarter...and only one ball used for the quarter as well.
                Going home stinking..

I was recently at Royal North Shore hospital and I noticed that the oval, which used to be the SFL's equivelant of the VFL's stinking gluepots) has opted for astro turf.
I can't imagine what it's like to play on, the grass burns must be horrendous - in any case I'd prefer the glue pot.

Fans. Some maybe, I still think there is a large cross-over of at least interest in both clubs. Not many rabid-fans yet, excluding a few on here.

Players. Well from the doco, the giants have moved past rivalry to contempt.
I dont see much from the swans, prefering to keep the melbourne-centric rivalries.

I'm telling ya, if we dont embrace Sydney 110%*, we'll lose it in the long run.

Note *- special call out to my good friend mcs who loves numerical impossibilities.

Of course, the umpires had nothing to do with it.....

My son plays on it as his home ground and it’s actually quiet good, as the artificial turf has improved dramatically. The AFL pumped a lot of money into it and it’s probably the best ground (artificial) in Sydney. It had become unplayable in Winter and was a continual dust bowl by mid season. The Council’s in Sydney are a bit trigger happy when it rains and most grounds get closed at the slightest downpour. The artificial grounds now provide certainty, as you know the ground will be open and the kids get to play in all types of weather. Having played on the gluepot as a kid and Senior footy it’s come a long way.

The artificial surfaces of today are a vast improvement on even 15 or 20 years ago. I play occasionally a bit of round ball football on one of the astro fields near to me. Its a lot more forgiving then previous iterations.

Still would not want to be at the bottom of a pile up too often playing aussie rules however!
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

Cricket pitch areas were the original glue pots in winter and absolutely rock hard at times at the beginning of the season. Not user friendly!

That's great to hear- my son played/I coached Auskick there about a decade ago, the quality of the ground really was a bit of a nightmare at times. We lived in fear of the slightest bit of rain late in the week because we knew the council would shut it down.

                                Welcome aboard, by the way!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
