The brown paper bagging still seems pretty rife down Mexico way. It might be better disguised than the old CFC days, but it’s hard to believe it’s not happening.Comment

Read the book The Boys Club by Michael Warner, it's an eye opener, but a lot of it we understand anyway.Comment

I don't get why they started playing him forward.Comment

Mate of mine is a Geelong supporters and lives down there - and even he laughs at all the rorts they pull. Their COLA is they never pay for anything.
Players want a weekend away in off season. No problems. Go to some winery getaway that sponsors Geelong and they don’t get charged.
There’s a local bakery that’s a sponsor and players all have a coffee account that’s never called in.
All out of the goodness of the heart of the owner of course. Nothing underhanded at all.

Would free coffees and weekends away etc make that much of a difference? I'd understand if they had free housing, cars or the like, I.e big expensive stuff you are guaranteed to need. But $10k in free stuff would not give them much of a salary cap advantage so to speak

That's the word apparently at Geelong, players get to invest in property developments that are "guaranteed" to be nice earners, and it's not in the salary cap or needing to be declared to the AFL because it's players managers just investing their money, hmmmmComment

Ross Lyon said something similar on MMM yesterday. A player buys a property at X amount and "someone" will be guaranteed to buy it off them in 3yrs at, say, $600k more."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

Doesn’t seem that much in it. At the end of the article:
“The publication contacted real estate Paul Biller from Biller Property agency, who listed the couple's previous home in the affluent suburb of Rose Bay in 2020.
He sold their semi-detached property in an off-market deal for $3.8million.
All the buyers in the building were able to customise their homes via an interior design package from the developers
Mr Biller denied reports that the couple's home was publicly listed.
The Franklins, who share two children together, currently live in a luxury ground-floor apartment located nearby, which they also bought off-market.
Jesinta sparked rumours of the move after she spoke to Body+Soul in May about her husband's football career and the family's future plans.
'I think there's still a lot of good football left in him, but it's our dream, whether that's in five years or 10 years or whenever, to be able to live closer to one of the grandparents and have quality time with them,' the model said.”Comment

No disrespect intended to the Gold Coast but when I was in my mid 30s there is no way I would have wanted to sell up and move there. Think it’s bsComment
-
Gold Coast isn't a club with any salary cap room, apparently can't fit a cigarette paper under their cap, but they could do with a draw card player :-)Comment

Winning the premiership or coming very close might change everything too, including our sentiments about whether he stays with us or not.Comment

Interesting that the article states that they are putting up the house in Sydney for sale. It sounds like they may not have reached agreement with the Swans and so are now looking to move at season's end? The Melbourne media will run with this story. Of course, it could also be a false rumour being spread by Lance's Manager to push the Swans into upping the contract amount?Comment
