I went to the game with a mate. Here are some observations:

I agree about making judgement on first year players, and we had plenty. It's a long season for these boys and a few looked very tired and Melbourne/Casey is stacked with players with plenty of senior experience. It is remarkable how much they improve with a full preseason. I thought Corey Warner looked the most likely. He is quick and makes position around the ground. Not as tall as Chad, yet, but looks to have a similar skill set. Looking forward to his 2023 season. Gus Sheldrick has a real tank and is a true midfielder. Will break into the side in 2023. I wouldn't be disappointed if he got a medi sub gig in the finals.

Will Gould: He looks to have everything but I suspect he hasn't got a game because he is too risky and makes silly decisions. He kicks the ball a mile but for whatever reason he kicks short too often. He did a kickout in the first quarter that just about hit the centre circle. He could have cleared the backline after a point every time. But then the likes of Cunningham, who should know better, beckoned that he kicked short to him. He is such a solid unit and is not slow and I wonder why they haven't tried him as a key forward, a bit like Membrey. Try knocking Will over on the lead. You could see his abject disappointment when he was beaten on a lead from an opponent. I'd keep him but not pidgeon holed.

Harry Cunningham knocked up getting cheap kicks. Kept getting the gimme handpasses. That horrible nothing when he kicked to the man on the mark! Now only a depth player.

Sinkers: Thanks for the service mate. You have been a stalwart.
Ladhams: A real worry. Unless he grows up he might be a bust. Right from the start he looked like he might get reported. He could also be one of those blokes who rises to the occasion in the ones.
    Sam Wicks: Depth player.
Campbell: Classy but looks like he waits for the game to come to him rather than imposing himself on the game. I have been a fan from day one but 2023 needs to be his year.
Ben Ronke: Easy our best and worked very hard. Deserves to keep his spot on the list.
McAndrew: I saw enough for me to think he might make it at some stage.
Joel Amartey: A keeper. I couldn't work out where he was positioned. As a CHF he would have given us a target.
Bell: Serviceable. Captain of the 2's next year.
McLean and Taylor didn't play. Maybe they have gone to Bali already.
Melican: As usual took until the 2nd quarter to work out he was playing footy today. Looks like he did his hammie right at the end. Looked pretty dejected on the bench.
We finished 4th on the ladder so you could say we had a pretty good year and Melbourne are pretty darn good. Lets see how we go next week.

McLean was at the AFLW match this evening. So most likely he's got some kind of injury but a wilder bit of conjecture is that the club is keeping him back to spring him into the seniors.

He and BT seemed to think that the Bulldogs were dominating all day, were unlucky not to have won the frees by further, and that it was totally mystifying how we could have beaten such a quality side.
Strangely, I've just woken in the night and realised that it was somebody called Nigel Carmody who did that Bulldogs game. Not that it really matters, but I probably shouldn't slander people through mistaken identity. Although, the commentary of Jason Bennett and his offsiders was pretty irritating.

He's got to learn to curb this sort of behavior if he is to have any meaningful footy career.

I guess you can praise the effort but was a pretty poor game with a lot of bombing it long to a contest over and over. Guess credit to the opposition for forcing it.

In his defence he is playing in the ruck

Absolutely stupid! Ladhams is very prone to this kind of stupid act, might have cost us against Port Adelaide. Needs to get it out of his game immediately

                      Aye caramba.

That's easily a week, and he's at real risk of two.

Ladhams leaned in and charged AFTER the opponent had already tapped the ball away.

That has got to be intentional.

He stopped briefly before he went at him. There is no defence for this, it was an intentionally aggressive (and high) bump. He was playing angry all day. A very poor decision on his behalf.

This is clear evidence of demonic possession. If he gets charged, I would take this on appeal to the Spanish Inquisition. We can get him off.

Does anyone know of a good exorcist in the Eastern suburbs?

It also looked like he stepped on Woewodin in the follow through although that might be accidental

Does anyone know why Sinclair was playing first ruck yesterday instead of Ladhams?
