Update: just found and watched Paddy's comments that he made with Garry Lyon (via kayo). I agree Paddy came across as genuinely remorseful and unscripted. I especially appreciated how he owned not only the punch but also the error in omitting to take his medication (insulin or whatever). Overall he came across much, much better than in the video released by the club last year. It helps me feel a fair bit better about him. Again, thanks to Goal Sneak for the pointer to that interview. It's a fabulous interview with some great insights into Paddy and our club.

Personally I do rate Ladhams, especially after the Hawthorn Game. In the VFL he was constantly been tugged at and blocked and held back from Contesting the ball. It managed to get one free kick. He just has to learn to deal with the bad days when nothing seems to be going your way.
against tigers i wathced Nankervis roughing him up , he just took it . Did nothing. He is mild mannered , like someone else we know . But going around cheap shotting blokes isnt the way to prove your a tough guy . Win the F ing ball and beat your opponent , thats how you do it .

The rest of the interview is interesting too.
Big difference between an All Australian full forward, the AFLs all time leading goal kicker … and Ladhams. Plugger and BBBH were often goaded into aggression, while performing at an elite level. Ladhams is frustrated into it, while performing at a level below elite. And it’s not fair to compare the talent of the players. But Pete has to actually earn his spot in the side. And undisciplined displays of aggression won’t likely get him there.
Oh that explains everything then and Barry Hall what was his excuse..oh yes he was performing at an elite level.
I just see holes in your choice of defence. He wasn't goaded into what he did to Staker. That's just crap about them being goaded. They were responsible for their acts.
You could say Port goaded Ladhams and who knows what was happening in the Casey game ?
I do get your point. If he doesn't have a body of work football wise , it might shorten his career if he becomes a serial offender.

My point was that Hall and Lockett endured a lengthy career of agitation from opposition. It doesn’t make their actions justifiable, but might account for them. Ladhams isn’t likely a target because he is capable of being a consistent match winner. He might be a target (eg against Port) because the opposition know how to unsettle him and thus render him even less effective. But unlike BBBH & Plugger (whose physical intimidation and reactions would strike fear into anyone of any size) Ladhams has thus far taken cheap shots against smaller opponents, & even then not really done much. Nor should he - he just needs to cut it out of his game. As TB implied, he’s a poor man’s Mummy.

Now I've rewatched Paddy's original video released by the club and it was better than I remembered. Think I've been a bit hard on him. Really glad to have both the McCartins playing together in our team. I hope they can forge a slice of history together.

Sorry TB, but my read on it is a little different. A 202cm ruckman figuring out how to be a physical presence by gut-punching a 187cm former teammate or charging a 182cm teenager who was out of play and concussing him, seems a fairly silly way of learning.
And I’m not sure what was Hickey supposed to say when being interviewed about a teammate who has just copped a 3 week suspension, quite possibly ending his 2022 campaign, and certainly putting in jeopardy our tenuous ruck situation?
I’m willing to keep giving Ladhams a chance, as we have him on our list for a while yet, and he’s young in terms of development, but respectfully, I actually think that in this instance, you might not be right. I do think the club and his teammates need to be publicly (& privately) supportive of him. But, unlike Barry Hall’s propensity for “brain fades” which were essentially managed, Landam’s needs his to be corrected.

Lewis Taylor didn’t play in the 2s last week but not among our listed injuries. Has he left the building?
He was one of our best for most of the past two Reserves seasons. I would think its hard to keep on going when you know that your cards are marked but he is a professional footballer.

No, I’m not comparing him to Hall. I’m, in fact, saying that he is young and should be ‘educated’ differently to how we managed Hall. But interpret my post however you want. I just think that - from my perspective - you interpreted Ladhams situation (and Hickey’s response) differently to how I did and while you emphatically declared you were right, I respectfully disagreed. That’s fine and I accept that. Your objection is noted. I’ll move on.

Cheer cheer
I was right . The article proved it . Pretty obvious hes a big bloke trying to prove hes tough enough by throwing his weight around . Needs to channel it into the contest more where he is pathetic and doesnt show much. Look at Gawn . He is not that physical but whoever he is against fears him as he is very good at what he does . Ladhams needs to make his opponent fear him by playing good footy , not being a dill with cheap shots .
