Did Gulden play on the wrong wing? He was boundary side with his left foot. He always looks better when he swings onto his left foot going inboard where the space opens up for him to deliver cleanly.

Agree. Our ball movement was abysmal. We had so many good targets that were just ignored in the last. I know our disposal was @@@@e all game but we could have at least tried to hit up the leads. They just ignored them totallyI don’t share the concern around Franklin’s place in the team. He is a match winner - and they are hard to come by. Keep him as long as we can, I say. Provided he keeps performing, of course. Buddy will get another contract because we are a better team when he is up and about.
I don’t have any confidence that we would improve over a longer term in his absence. Being less predictable is easy enough for a week or two but doing it over a sustained period is much more difficult once the opposition know how you play.
Playing Franklin isn’t the problem, our decision making and kicking inside 50 is the issue. There were times today where we ignored Franklin when he was the better target. Bombing the ball in was a much bigger problem.
Beyond that, we so rarely kick to advantage when kicking to a contest (Logan’s beautiful last quarter drive to Heeney being a notable exception today). This needs to be addressed, no matter who is playing inside our forward 50.

Ladhams will hopefully learn from this. Had a shocker but there’s gotta be (some) upside. His role takes time to develop - just needs to learn to play to his strengths (provided he can work out what they are).I havbe been sayin for weeks Wick and Oriadon are ntoe good enough and shouls be scrodssed off the lis to select from. I had nesrly changed my mind about Ladhams but PA new what they were getting rid of. Needs to be a lot of changes tghis week Maybe eve tne coaches thsy looked lost in the box.
You’re on the money with Wicks, I fear.
COR I’m not sure. There’s something there - but it’s not coming through on the big stage.
Everyone lowered their colours today. Inside and outside the coaching box.
As they say, hopefully this is a wake-up call. Every team is capable of beating anyone (even Norf and WC if they turn up with the right mindset). We fluffed a big opportunity today - and it’s probably ruined our season. Next week will tell…Comment

Yeah, we were a bit like St Kilda last night.....which is really embarrassing to admit.Comment

They aren't....again I feel dirty but it's the truth....unless we can FINALLY come up with a forward line structure that is ruthlessly effective with Buddy in it. As for JPK, he needs to realise he is past it and retire.....and now I feel even dirtier. It's hard to see us turning this ship around next year. It's going to take longer than that. I'd be inclined to let Buddy go at the end of the year and give the youngsters a year to develop playing together leading into the 2024 season. If it comes together sooner, all the better, but I wouldn't drag things out thinking the vets like Buddy and JPK are going to help us win a premiership.

We beat Richmond and Melbourne and nearly beat Carlton. Today backs up your last sentence.....only today. We were just terrible today. However, you are right in that we have to cease playing at least one pathetic quarter per game....and having to play catch up. That's got to be tiring.....and it caught up with us against Port.

Well hopefully we are too.We were outworked. They had 241 uncontested possessions to 165. Their players ran harder than ours to get separation. They got more tackles than us when they had more of the ball as well.
So disappointing given how tight the ladder is and a top four spot was a possibility with Melbourne and Brisbane stumbling.
St Kilda will be on fire next week too after losing to Melbourne.Comment

No doubt Ladhams was one of Port Best players. A really poor performance, I hope Mr. Hickey is ready next week. Our defence was shown up again. I understand that Eseendon's McGrath has not signed a yet. Maybe worth having a look at?Comment

We do TB...but another one would be good.

I hear you. It's clearly not the only reason we lost today, but it seems like it'd be pretty straightforward to work out a schedule that has a team play at home, have a bye, play away against a team who just came off a bye as well (and played away the week before). Perhaps I'm just getting old and cranky, and getting to the inevitable madness of "How hard could it be to schedule a major sporting competition? I bet I could do a better job in an afternoon in the beer garden at The Courthouse."They just don't care about that Stella, that's why they don't try to make it work. Sporting fairness is a long way down the list of AFL wants when it comes to scheduling. Whatever TV wants, TV gets in general.
Otherwise, we'd simply have what used to happen - being a general bye and a week without footy, and none of the retarded idea that is the pre-finals bye (aka knows as the Fairypuppies Christmas gift) week either.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

We are still a fair way away from a Premiership and we need to focus on the future. On form Buddy deserves a new contract and its not his fault the team cant resist being Buddy-centric but the reality is we are not in the Premiership window and would be better served by getting more games into other players. Premiership forward lines take lots of time to develop and we simply dont have the midfield capable of winning a Premiership in the next 2 - 3 years.
The fervent hope is that they will be good enough.Comment

Lol. Very true.
There’s also a bunch of bottom-half teams who will always fancy their chances against us if they stick to their plan.
Crows, Suns, Hawks, Doggies etc. they’re all capable of giving us a shake up. Even Norf should’ve beaten us.
We have this Mark Twain tendency to allow teams to bring us down to their level & then they beat us on experience.
Today was not like this. Power is a better team than their ladder position suggests. We simply got smashed across the board.Comment
