Didn't see the game, but by reading the comments, it sounds like more of the same.

I'm really starting to question Beatson and Co. at this point. We always seem to draft the same type of players, barring a few fortunate Academy players!

We love a half back flanker or a little goer who tackles strongly but has average foot skills.

We really need to look and some more polished footballers to add to our grunt as we are really struggling with our basic skills at the moment.

And the 2022 draft picks are all looking poor at the moment which is a real concern.

If you have smaller forwards you have to play a game that suits thrm. Stop bombing. But of course they are trained to bomb because it is Horse DNA. The coaching panel do what the Head Coach says. His game plan. Well his game plan is an effing shambles

        Buddy.

Maybe even make him the player-coach.

Because of where I live these days, I don’t get to many games at all, let alone reserves. But I was down in Sydney for the weekend and made a point of getting to the ground a bit early to watch some of the reserves and saw most of the second and third quarters. We were average, as others have said, but I largely wanted to watch two blokes - McAndrew and Edwards.

McAndrew impressed me. He ain’t no gangly giraffe. He moves well, has some tricks in the ruck, and reads the play fairly well. He could develop his marking skills and ability to provide a target down the wings, but if this is where he’s got to in 18 months, he’s a keeper and I’d be inclined to give him a game or two if the chance arises this year. I could see why he keeps being named emergency and shows some of the promise he offered in pre season games was real.

Edwards is still raw, but he looks to have real potential. He’s a strong body, moves ok, and certainly knows how to get a fist in and spoil. You wouldn’t say with confidence yet he will make it, but some of the ingredients are there and if he can keep developing he’s a show.

I am interested in the development of those 2 as well and agree re McAndrew.Regarding Edwards I saw for the first time him backing himself and throwing himself into the play and he showed his strength and closing speed which for a player of his age is notable. Of further interest was that our two key backs, Melican and Edwards, got 86 and 80 Fantasy Points respectively and the ""great white hope", McDonald only got 79.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

The loss of Shipley just before quarter time hasn’t helped but given there’s no-one in the team capable of even hitting a short hit-up 15m kick - anywhere on the ground, not just into the forward line - it’s going to be an uphill battle.
Howard is out of Melbourne - Played one NAB league game for Sandringham last year and is associated with North Shore when he isnt playing VFL.

Could we sign JPK to play VFL for us?

BOC with 22 disposals and 2 goals (both in the last) as the Giants did a Collingwood AFL to the Collingwood VFL side by kicking 7 goals to 3 in the final quarter to win by 2 points

Until we have a strong VFL team, we will struggle to cover injuries in our seniors. But importantly, the ressies need to develop their game similar to our AFL team so players can step up and play the same system. Do we have the right coaches for our VFL team to develop them accordingly?

The right coaches?? Worry about the lack of players! Another four out of the senior side this week will rob another three at least from the threadbare VFL side

Fair point 707- but they didn’t do much at season’s start when there were hardly any injuries! Though we’ve had a lot of top-ups so you’re right there. Nevertheless, coaching can improve these young guys to simulate what our seniors are trying to do.????

At least the VFL game is on Saturday evening, after the senior game, meaning all the emergencies will be able to play (assuming none is required).

But I expect an annihilation to exceed the worst annihilations we have already suffered this year.

Even at the start of the season we didn't have a strong team. I just counted the round 1 team list and got to 14 AFL listed players of whom nine were very young first or second year players.

Bear in mind that we were missing Fox, Clarke, Hickey and Reid from the senior side then, plus Konstanty was injured too. And Franklin was suspended in the AFL round 2 that coincided with VFL round 1, taking another player away from the VFL team.

Well they had a lot of changes to their senior team so they’ll be missing quite a few too. So maybe not an annihilation but just a good solid thumping?
