Just watched the last 2 quarters. Totally unsurprised by the score-line. How could it have been any different! It is cruel to send a team to play at any level without a key/tall forward. I do not understand putting Buller in the seniors this week - crazy decision on many levels.
There were many good passages of play and good endeavour to get the ball into the forward line but to have it rebound out time and time again must be so disheartening.
If it is going to be like this for the rest of the year it is up to the coaches to ensure that the outcome is a culture of resiliance, determination and development and not a culture of losing.Comment

I thought Arnold was solid, but the Lions were moving the ball really well into the fwd 50, so wasn't much he could do. I noticed he most often took a very conservative option in moving the ball forward, whereas Gould would attempt the high-risk kick. So I'd compare his game to Melican's at this stage. However as he develops a better understanding of his fellow defenders he might be able to offer more rebound.Comment

Arnold was one of our better players. Moves well, can take an intercept mark and is generally quite confident with ball in hand. Probably a few others worth mentioning in my opinion. Some of McAndrew's ruck work was very good. I like Mitchell on the wing. He covers plenty of ground, goes hard when it's in his area and has some skills. Warner was possibly our most dangerous player. Cleary looked up to the level, despite spending less time as an inside mid than he usually does at academy level. Hall-Kahan tried hard, had a few nice touches and managed to top our tackle count, but was clearly getting annoyed with not being rewarded by the umpires. Konstanty made some nice efforts, but seems to be disadvantaged by not having a KPF to rove and often poor delivery into the forward line.Comment

Edwards is still very raw, but I can definitely see improvement giving some hope that he might make it in due course.
I would like to find a role for Gould as a battering ram. When he hits people, they go down and stay down. I thought the bump he made in the forward line was fair and to the body, not the head. Even though he's listed at 191 cm. he's really a ground level player. We should make a serious effort to play him in another role before deciding to delist him.
I would play Arnold next week in the AFL, replacing Francis.
I know that Stephens belongs in the midfield at VFL level, but I feel he can only make it as a lock down player, perhaps a defensive forward, in the AFL. We should give him more of this type of role in the VFL and see if he can translate it to an AFL spot.Last edited by Ludwig; 17 June 2023, 02:37 PM.Comment

Agree with your assessment.

Disappoint to see Kyle Dunkley in a Brisbane strip after spending last year as a top up with usComment

Its was unbelievable how unaccountable the Swans players were at stoppages. Not only did they lose 9 out of ten stoppages, there was no pressure on the Brisbane Lions player going forward and thus they could deliver the ball lace out to their forwards. I don't care what others say, this is poor coaching. The young players will not develop until we get the right coach.Comment

I guess goswannies is referring to him being on our Covid top-up list last year. But we never had need to call on the list, and I don't think there was any connection other than him being on that list. He eidn't actually play as a top-up for our VFL side (and as you point out, he was with another VFL side).Comment

He played for our reserves what might have been our last season in the NEAFL. possibly one but no more than two games.Comment

The reserves will get a boost with up to 5 senior players back next week: Mills, T.McCartin, Heeney, McDonald and Franklin as reported on TV last night. All trained yesterday.Comment

Geez, looks like the boys are lining up for a rampant West Coast side! Lol. I just hope Horse doesn't do what he normally does and drop the kids who need developing whilst keeping a few others who are out of form and not performing at their expense.
