Has Reid ever actually played as a defender? Other than being stuck as a loose extra behind the ball in the last few minutes of a quarter?
I suspect he might have made a good defender had he been switched back early in his career. But it seems a bit much to expect him to become a true KPD at this stage of his career.Comment

Agree with this. If Reid can play another season like his last one, he can be invaluable all over the ground. His bad injury record makes people forget what a special player he is. I would be very disappointed to see him delisted. I think he has two good seasons left in him.
The fwd line is stacked with Buller as well, id rather not keep him to play fwdComment

I don't recall him doing so but my memory might be faulty. I do recall him making his AFL debut right at the end of his first year with the club. Against Brisbane - I think at the GABBA but not sure. I do seem to recall him playing a forward and kicking his first goal towards the end of that game.
His brother certainly started AFL life as a defender, and made the AA team one year as a defender. Later on he switched forward and then flipped between defence and attack.Comment

He's a mark clunker, and straight shooter. Wasted down back.Comment

All we really need to get done now is the Grundy deal, and we hold all the aces because too many bridges have been burnt at Melbourne.
We won't live or die on the Adams trade, so if it happens it happens.
Oddest trade so far is Goldstein to Essendon. He must have only a year or two left in him. I didn't realise the Don's were in the premiership window..lol.Comment

Sorry did you really describe Sammy as a straight shooter? He’s such a confidence kicker. Only needs to miss the first couple and he’s quite capable of spraying them from Tom Hickey range.Comment

I suspect a compromise picks swap resulting in a net worth pick value in the 30's will get it done. Especially considering Melbourne allowed Harmes go to the the Dogs for a future pick 3. Both Grundy & Harmes were out of favour contracted players. As some have posted, Grundy trade may hinge on what we receive for Stephens from North, which should be a late 2nd rounder in net worth.
I would've been happy if we got Harmes for a future 3rd rounder if Adams wasn't an option.
Hoping we can still retain our first 2 picks (12 & 25), so we can bundle them both to possibly upgrade to a top 10 pick and have chance to draft KPD Connor O'Sullivan. Getting Grundy, Adams, Jordan, Hamling, O'Sullivan & Cleary is my dream net haul from the trade/draft periods.Last edited by KSAS; 11 October 2023, 04:50 AM.Comment

To be honest we have to make these 4 deals plus keep our 12, 25, 46 this season if we want to truly have a go at the top4 while achieving well at the draft…..we can always do a late swap for a future 3rd rounder if we need to burn pick 46 but keep some value for next year.
We currently have picks 12, 25, 33, 46 and 54
If we can’t make it happen it is not the end of the world…….but it would be a real mistake not to go hard in 2024 / 2025 in our window
I’m loving the chess match and maybe what future picks will be involved to break the dead locks"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Ps the comments to go early with one of Adams and or Grundy might not be the smartest move if both parties are a long way apart and we would need to compromise
We know both Melb and Pies can do a lot with the extra dollars they would save from moving these guys on. If there are players they want but equally those players want to move to Victoria then they may start looking elsewhere and of the clubs may tell them time is running out as we need to act
The Pressure back on the Pies and Dees to improve their lists is still real"be tough, only when it gets tough"
