My reply function is misbehaving, but I completely agree with Roadrunner. The only reason we would take McDonald is for cover if we pushing top 4 but we are not, so I can't see any reason why we would take him now. We will have the off-season to add a couple of players (perhaps Himmelberg and/or TDK) which completely transforms our backline. If at the start of next year we still need a key defender, maybe we can take him then.
For now, someone younger and with more potential please.

Agree with HH but the money that it would take to land TDK it’s a big fat no from me . He simply hasn’t done enough to warrant the money. Can’t even get a regular senior game for Carlton who’s current ruck Pitonet is a good honest footballer at best

The problem with TDK is his value, vs what Carlton will perceive as his value.

Based on value and notional potential, he's an end of first round/early second round pick. But Carlton will want two high to mid first rounders, and the player's manager will be seeking $800K.

        Pass.

I'd be chasing Himmelberg and/or Nick Larkey. Larkey is a free agent at the end of next year, and about to turn 25, and is a 40 goal player in the worst side in the comp for the past few years. He'd be a great companion for Logan.

Agree neither are worth 800k, Larkey would be a good get too.

Luke Parks has also nominated and would be worth at least considering, which I'm sure the club is doing.

Larkey and HH all the way. TDK seems like an average player for 800k

TDK seems like an average player with a good highlights reel. The latter does not win games of footy. As for the eye watering $ being floated about - it's a big NO from me.

HH is worth a good contract though, has the runs on the board and is versatile.

Players have until Wednesday to nominate for the MSD.

With the chance that the McCartin brothers and Rampe may not play again, shouldn't we be looking at quality defenders instead of forwards?

                    HH is a swingman
Tom and Ramps will be 1 or 2 games away

                    Paddy is the big question

Can't see how he plays again. Tom is also a worry medium to long term.

Realistically, the medicos will advise Paddy to retire as his future health is paramount. However, I think Tom will play on and hopefully won’t have a repeat episode. Even with him and Ramps back, we need 2 KPP’s for our backline, and HH would be a great option as he can play at both ends.

At this early stage it’s fair to say the jury is still out on both Francis and Gould, so a few more games are warranted for both. Maybe we will see better performances when Ramps comes back to help organise the backline. He has been badly missed both for his own play and certainly as the general down back. Who do we have who could take over? If the Pelican can remain injury free (a big if!) he could fill the FB spot as there’s no one else in our ressies at this stage who could step up.

Surely we’ve neglected talls for a long time on the basis that none were considered standouts. This policy is badly flawed imho as we only have to look at the mids we have drafted over the last few years- Academy products excepted.

100%. Better to take a kid with potential. Even if we struggled into the bottom half of the Eight we’d be lucky to win a final, so go with development.

Would be a fair question mark over Tom’s long term future, even if he gets back how long before he ends up like his brother ? 2 concussions this year alone

So apparently teams must nominate for mid season draft by some time tomorrow.

However they have until 31 May to nominate for unexpected injury or retirement.

So for example, if we were to put Sam Reid on the list term injury list, it would have to be before tomorrow’s deadline as we have known about his injury for a long time.

With Ladhams, not so sure as he was injured on the weekend, but you could argue that we weren’t sure it was season ending at the 24 May deadline, so we could possibly put him on the long term injury list on Friday and still be able to draft a player against the vacancy he creates. I am speculating though.

Essentially tomorrow is one deadline and 31 May is a second deadline (eg if Paddy retires, or someone does an ACL this weekend).
