We should target Jacob Van Rooyen. Good size, can mark , beautiful kick and has a real go.
And he wouldn’t break the bank at this point ( although his stock is rising )

Might cost a lot in picks though.

The Mongrel Punt had this (unpaywalled) to say about him:

“My jury is out as to how high his ceiling is, but … he has definitely shown enough for Demon fans to think that, as he fills out and gets even stronger, they’ve found their number one key forward going forward. And as we’ve seen, good ones are pretty damn hard to find.”

I think it would take Tim Kelly type picks to prise him from the Demons who have struggled to find a #1 forward for an eternity.

We had our chance at the draft and missed it by selecting Angus Sheldrick with the pick before him

Yeah you’re probably right, he’s gonna be pretty special though I reckon

He's also contracted to the end of 2025, so do you think the Swans targeting has any more chance of us acquiring him than a heap of wishfull RWO thinking?

On the other hand if we are going to wander into the realms of fantasy, I think the Swans should develop a time machine (build it around a VW chasis to please our sponsors), travel back to 1950, and bring the pre-teen Bobby back to the present day Swans Academy.

Just re-reading this last post - it's terrible what a bye week can do. No offense meant Melbourne Blood.

Did TDK improve his rating by RWO's?

82% TOG against the (supposed) best ruck duo in the competition

That depends on whether Gold Coast are trying to do another salary dump.

We’re just so, so lucky to have recruiters who (often) use our first round draft pick as a form of amusement for all the other clubs…it gives them something to laugh and point at. I remember that draft so we’ll…I’m like “Oh my God I can’t believe van Rooyen has slid to our pick…yes, yes, Irish jig….what the actual????????? a 178cm Smokey that nobody else rates….we better get in quick!”

From the Swans game (didn't really watch the Dees game)? Not at a purported $800K a year.

The guy who I didn't initially rate that seems to be getting better all the time is Brennan Cox. Saw him mentioned somewhere as a pre-agent - feels like the type of targetting that earned Port Allir.

Sigh, I hear you yes. That said, unlike some of our other more speculative first round picks I'm still hopeful that Gus could turn into something special.

Haha not at all , I didn’t exactly do my research, was just watching him play and thinking he would be great for us alongside McDonald, and is not quite a big money acquisition at this stage.

                            .
Good to see a bit of love for Cox. I was plugging him on here a couple of years back as a successor for Rampe. And now, we need a few good soldiers down back. He’s a very good mark, a good kick and reads the play fantastically. I imagine Freo would place a high price on his head.

But give me a choice between Cox and TDK, and the relative price we’d have to pay both to get him, then salary, I’d take Cox.

We wouldn’t have the available draft capital or salary

I get your point, and you are technically correct; but the way player movement is these days, everyone is available at the right terms.
