I don’t think Heeney has been right since he was whacked in the head by Steven May in last year’s final. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Looking at Heeney's highlights when he first burst onto the scene, how much of a better set shot at goal he was technically compared to today. Looked more confident with flair.

On another note, with Buddy now reaching his games & goal milestones, can see further justification to play him as a super sub or start on the bench, but know that won't happen because of his standing in the game. Don't think he no longer has the athleticism to play further up the ground to allow our other developing KPFs play deep.
I'm concerned Tom Hickey might also be cooked, but they could be due to his interrupted season & still searching for match fitness. Leaves only Ladhams & young McAndrew as our only other genuine rucks if Hickey does calls it quits.
Kane Cormes has been singing the praises of Kieren Briggs (GWS) as an up & coming ruckman that won't cost the earth in trade. He has another year on his contract though. Been a long time since we had a dominant ruckman to give our mids first use.Last edited by KSAS; 16 June 2023, 07:55 AM.Comment

Briggs got his chance after Flynn got cooked shouldering the ruck in the first half of the season - I hope the existance of Preuss might help us winkle out either of the two young Giants.Comment

I think he will , still surprises me that he actually lasted to our second pick . The consensus was he was the second best player in the mid season draft .
I was big on him before we picked him up , I will go on record again and say he will be the pick of the players from this years mid season draft .Not expecting big things from him this year but a big preseason next year and getting familiar with our system should see a very handy player emerge . We’re our list is I’m surprised we didn’t draft a few players in the 20 to 25 year age bracket in last years draft since we couldn’t afford to trade for any ready made players

West Coast - Ryan Maric (193cm forward)
North Melbourne - Robert Hansen jnr (180cm forward) - they have adequate stocks of tall forwards already.
Hawthorn - Clay Tucker (204cm ruck) - maybe they needed a specialised ruckman more?
Richmond - Matthew Coulthard (176cm forward)
Greater Western Sydney - Pass
Sydney - Harry Arnold (194cm defender) - our need for tall defenders is well known.
Geelong - Mitch Hardie (185cm midfielder)
Fremantle - Ethan Stanley (188cm wingman)
Essendon - Jaiden Hunter (196cm forward) - the first player drafted with a similar role to Buller.
Western Bulldogs - Caleb Poulter (193cm midfielder) - recycled player
Port Adelaide - Quinton Narkle (182cm midfielder) - another recycled player
Hawthorn - Brandon Ryan (200cm forward) - the second player drafted with a similar role to Buller, from the Northern Bullants (VFL). Perhaps Hawthorn chose a player that they were more familiar with here?
Richmond - James Trezise (188cm defender) - Richmond elevated a player from their own VFL side.
Greater Western Sydney - Pass
Sydney - Jack Buller (199cm forward)
15 live picks, 13 of them were used. Only two of them before Buller were tall forwards. Hawthorn and Essendon were the only other clubs drafting tall players, and Hawthorn specifically chose a ruckman first. So Buller would have only been considered by maybe three clubs, not all of them. Judging by the number of picks used, I would say that most clubs got who they were after."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Until Buller learns the "system", just place him at centre half forward 30 to 40 metres from goal and let him clunk contested marks and kick a few goals. Put Paps nearby for the crumbs."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment
