Unlikely we’ll see Paddy back, unfortunately, given his history. He was immense for us last year but you never know what a long rest can do. But we need to look elsewhere for sure. If we don’t have to give away too much, Barrass may be the best bet if HH stays with the Giants.

Another name that pops up ow and then is Tom Fullerton, 24 year old tall utility who hasn't played a game this year for Brisbane. He could be okay and would let us drop one of our ruckmen, so doesn't really take up a list spot, nett.
If we can't recruit one of the better backmen without paying a fortune, we can just cobble together something from the motley crew of injury prone players. We just may have to carry a couple of extras. Perhaps Reid, Melican and Harry Arnold will be the go next year. Sometimes unlikely combos like this work out okay.Comment

For me, a lot re Barrass hinges on exactly where our pick falls. A lot of the consensus around the draft is there’s a bit of a gap between the top 11 and the rest. Gold Coast will claim 3 of the 11 - leaving 8 high value potential talents on the table. I’d also be loathe to take the two Tasmanians before we know the concessions Tassie’s new team will get upon entering the comp.
That leaves Reid, who we won’t have access to; Watson, who I doubt we will have access to; Curtin, who I like and we could use; Duursma, who I’m not sure is what we need; Caddy, who’d make a terrific third forward with midfield potential; and O’Sullivan, who I like and we could use.
If we finish with some mixed results and end in the range of those worth having, I’d be hanging onto our pick. If we run home strongly and get pushed back just outside that range, throw the pick at West Coast and haggle over the rest from there.
P.S: FWIW, he seems like man enlightened fellow.
PPS: the other element I forgot to mention was the two dodgy deals Norf are trying to pull - one with having some sort of rights with Sanders, and then willingly letting their one true KPD in McKay walk for a deal they hope will earn them pick 2 or 3 (depending on the Harley Reid Cup results this weekend) - which would chew up players and push back draft picks like ours.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Cal Twomey thinks Barrass will stay at WC. If the Swans want him, it will take our first and second round draft picks to get him, in his opinion

Why not try and get Sean Darcy from Fremantle? Only 25 and Freo need a tall forward more than two rucks.
We give them some draft picks which they would be desperate for, as they only have a fourth round pick after their Jackson deal.
Give them our second, the Hawks’ second, and the Hawk’s third?
They will probably want Logan though so no deal will be possible.Comment

Himmelberg is a free agent and does not cost draft picks. Make him an offer he cannot refuse, and use the draft picks on other players such as TDK. We have draft capital and need to use it wisely.
Hopefully we will pickup 3 players ready to step straight into the team, and the club has indicated they will be players in the free agency and restricted agency market. Barrass is a good player but HH can fill that role without the cost of draft picksComment

Himmelberg is a restricted free agent. This means we have to offer a big enough contract so GWS does not match. If they match, we need to trade. See Jeremy Cameron for reference.
Personally, I'd rather give up a draft pick or two than ruin our salary cap.
Also, I believe Cal Twomey said that West Coast would ask for a 1st and 2nd round pick, which is different to what it would take. If they are willing to talk even at this high price, then it means that he is somewhat available. It seems to me that Vic media always expect Swans to pay more than market value and we get less than market value for players traded out.Comment

I'm pretty sure the Cats traded for Cameron, which I think means the salary match thing didn't apply.
In any case, GWS almost always have salary cap issues, which is why other clubs find it so easy to pick off players. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there weren't less listed players at GWS than there are ex GWS players on other clubs lists. So we wouldn't have to do a Buddy type deal. Was that who you were referring to when you mentioned ruining our salary cap?Comment

Weagles open to trading pick 1, allegedly, so I wondered what we could offer them for Barass and pick 1 as a package?
Also Cal Twomey on Gettable says we are interested in McKay, read into that what you will re: Barass and HHComment

We got a future 2nd for him, when he was 26. Which was unders. The asking price for TB is overs.
I’m hoping sanity will prevailComment
