No to Grundy for me he simply is not that All Australian ruckman he was a few years ago . Your paying for what he was not what he know is
How about Ned Moyle from the Gold Coast , got a taste with a few senior games this year and dominated in patches in the VFL . Gold Coast also have another young ruck in their Academy this year coming in so they might be happy to move him on
205cm 96kg who would be 22 when the season starts next year , worth a look in my opinion

I cant see how you would choose Ned "Nobody" Moyle over Brodie "All Aust" Grundy. 2024 Grundy would still be in the top 6 ruckman, same as 2022 Hickey was.

This is an article about Tom Barass’ decision to stay a Weagle and turn down the Swans

Swans target to stay put with West Coast

Although it’s possible he’s being held to his contract and may still make a trade request (That’s my reading between the lines that the WCE CEO comes out and says the same thing about being part of the rebuild … the journo could be parroting the party line)

West Coast CEO Nisbett on futures of Simpson, Barrass, Naitanui, himself and more

Have you given up on "Mensa" Ladhams?

Going into 2024, our greatest issue is the ruck. This is a clear weakness for us given Hickey is close to the end, Ladhams doesn't appear to be the solution and McAndrew is still very much a project player. Basically we have no one.

With regards to KPD's we are pretty well covered in the short term. McCartin, Rampe and Fox (for that Jeremy Cameron type) are more than capable, then we have Melican and Francis as back up options. Clearly Rampe is nearer to the end and will need replacing, just doesn't need to be next year.

I'm not suggesting our KPD stocks are the envy of the competition, just that we are better covered there in 2024 than the ruck.
I get your point and I do think it is a point of concern. But IMO the overall AFL need for a good/great ruck is much less than a good/great KPD. I have a post a few pages back on my views on the current state of our KPDs (tl;dr - it's thin and dire!)

McLean (if we can keep him), Amartey and Reid have all shown the competence to be decent back up rucks so we only need one specialist ruck in the 22.

I am taking a positive outlook on Hickey - earlier in the year he was battling injuries and was down on form, but now he seems to be working himself nicely into the backend of the year. I wouldn't write him off yet.

McAndrew has shown himself to be competitive at AFL level and will only get better. To give you credit, god knows with Ladhams, if he could get dumb decision making out of his game he'd be our no.1 ruck for sure - but I don't think he ever will.

Either way - yes a Grundy would be great but we don't need another middling ruck (we have them!). We need a good/great KPD as soon as next year if we want to compete for the premiership again. I don't think Melican and Francis are premiership KPDs, but I think a lot of average rucks can become premiership players

Jury is out on Mensa who has 2 more years to run on his contract. Has ability but still questionable above the shoulders.

Im not so quick to give up on Ladhams, was playing well when he hurt his ankle.
Hickey is done, wont get thru a full year next year.

Missing out on Barass is a kick to the guts. Remember when we were a destination club? Sure losing COLA hurts, but the fact we can't extract a bloke out of that rabble suggests we are way down the pecking order for where quality players want to end up. Not sure what the answer is.

As for West Coast, hearing their CEO say we've been @@@@e for years and the answer will be I'll leave when I'm good and ready, but otherwise we're sure to bounce back with all the immense talent we have, that's flabbergasting. If I were a fan I'd be ropeable.

Our trading is already disastrous. In the last week we’ve missed out on HH and Barrass, both of whom were looking good to come to us. Either quality players don’t want to come to Sydney anymore for some reason (in which case it’s being sold badly to them) or we’re not offering enough. Maybe it’s time to let Kinnear Beatson go.

Seriously! Everyone take a Bex and have a good lie down. It’s really hard to prise players out of clubs, even free agents. I’m not sure of the league wide success rate but it would be in the region of 25% or less.

Besides, no one from the Swans has confirmed either the HH or TB rumours. That’s all they’ve ever been,

I also wonder if we're targeting more than high profile players - I assume we are.

Two of the club's great recruits were players who couldn't crack a regular game in hot sides - Craig Bolton and Josh Kennedy.

Who fits the bill these days? Even Collingwood admits Fin McRae would be getting a game at 90% of other sides, and he's a good sized midfielder who finds it plenty. I assume the Pies will fight to keep him given they've got an ageing midfield, but you never know. What other players are out there that fit our needs that we might be able to wrinkle out?

Absolutely. We need to respect players who want to stay with their clubs. Besides, we only take players who want to come to us, not mercenaries. Sure, there are some pieces of the jigsaw missing but I’m sure management are equally aware as we are and are working to improve us. Why do some think we’re not a destination club? We are well run and have a great culture, proud history and a talented young group of players. If you wanted to move on from your current club for whatever reason, the Swans would surely be near top of the list! Have faith………….
