It seems bizarre to me that the club played Clarke as sub so many times when they were probably sure they were going to delist him.
We have had form with keeping players in the 2s that we were not going to keep for next year (R O’Keefe?).
Surely we would have been better playing Warner jnr a few more times or try HKH etc, when they were thereabouts at the top 23-24 level (amongst fit players).
Not talking about gifting games to players way off the pace, but it seems like we wasted some opportunities in the second half of the season to develop our list.Comment

Wonder what the chances of someone else drafting Reid ahead of us in the Rookie draft might be ????Comment

I had the same thought.....it would be a long shot given his injury history but not totally out of the question, given his pedigree when fit, which some will assume he is now.Comment

Warner Jnr and Roberts come to mind and maybe some others that could be worth a try. My point is that we know Wick’s upside as he’s played 50 games now. There don’t seem to be any other spots in the team unless you’re a competent KPD, so Wicks is vulnerable. We need better to help make top 4- too many brain farts for mine.Comment

This is an interesting question on the adding Sam Reid onto the rookie list. If I recall correctly we did the same thing two years ago when we added Paddy McCartin to the rookie list having played in the VFL team the previous year.
Like you I was, and still am, under the impression the rookie draft followed the same format as the National draft, but there appears to be a way around this with current listed players being shuffled between primary and rookie lists without risk.
I would like to refer this one to Liz who seems to have a better understanding of how this works.Comment

I’m not nervous on the rookie move by the club for Reid
Sam will simply let his manager know that it is Swans or no deal
Simples
Every club tends to toe the line on allowing shuffles between rookie and list and vica versa"be tough, only when it gets tough"

We delist Reid, he nominates for the rookie draft and anyone can pick him up (works no different to national draft). Clearly it wouldn't make sense for another club to take him as he would simply retire and they would waste a pick when they could have drafted a younger player. Of course it's not guaranteed that this wouldn't happen but a club would be very vindictive and stupid to do so.Comment

Konstanty is 18 and only turns 19 next week. Fair bit of upside i would have thought.Comment

If you read what I wrote, it was in relation to why I think we kept Wicks for 2024 (not the next 10 years). Konstanty didn't show enough this year to give confidence he will be able to (or ready to) take over from Wicks next year.Comment

The purpose of the rookie draft was to give rookies (newbies) a chance to get onto an AFL list with less risk to the club taking the chance and drafting them as they could be given a one year contract at a lower base than the AFL draft. Placing Sam Reid on the rookie list is an abuse of this process in my opinion as he is the most senior player an the Swans list. If they do this I will be extremely disappointed in the Swans for gaming the system. Sam should either be retained on the senior list or given the opportunity to retire.Comment
