I’m looking to AI for answers lol ????
In the realm of football, where legends are made,
There stood Kinnear, a man unafraid.
He took a path less traveled, with a vision in his mind,
To lead dwarves to his club and leave doubters behind.
With the Dow as his ally, he built a strong foundation,
Navigating the ups and downs with determination.
Through the twists and turns of the beautiful game,
He forged a path of player success, earning acclaim.
Together they ventured, on this road unknown,
Facing challenges and obstacles, yet never alone.
With each victory and defeat, they grew stronger still,
Their bond unbreakable, a testament to their will.
Through the highs of triumph and the lows of defeat,
They stayed true to their purpose, never accepting defeat.
For in the road less traveled, they found their true worth,
A journey of resilience, a testament to their birth.
Who knows what Smokey, these gurus will pick.
Another short forward pocket or winger? - They’ll grab him super quick!
Who is our next Ling, Vespremi or Stephens?
Some say with Warner, Logan and T Mac, we can call it evens?
Van Rooyen was ours for the taking, and so was Serrong!
Yet some one-eyed supporters just see no wrong.
They say over and over, “In Beatson we trust!”
But every early non Academy pick cept Logan, has been a horrible bust!
So who will they pick in 2023?
Probably a key forward, who is barely five foot three!Last edited by Maltopia; 14 November 2023, 03:51 PM.Comment

The Age has an overwiew article on this year's draft which I won't post, as I find they tend to screw up threads. The main theme of the article is that this draft will be the most unpredictable in years, with variables like the numerous Academy & F/S picks making it difficult to predict the 1st round draft order. So there could be surprises.
Other takes I got from the article:
- West Coast will be willing to trade their 2024 1st rounder, due to lack of WA talent in next year's perceived top 10 at this point. This gives them chance of snaring both Harley Reid & Daniel Curtin in this year's draft.
- AFL closed the loophole we geniusly exposed in 2018, when we swapped our 2nd rounder back & forth with WC before GWS bid on Nick Blakey came at pick 10 (I recall he was expected to be a top 5 pick).
- I knew matching bids on Academy & F/S picks came with 20% discounts, but didn't know this was only for 1st round picks. Matching bids outside the 1st round come with a fixed 197 points discount (pick 56 value).
- They have rated Caiden Cleary at pick 34
Edit: Article stated Hawthorn were successful in trading pick 27, their future 2nd & 3rd round with our pick 18 last year in getting Josh Weddle. IIRC we used pick 27 to draft Konstanty & their futures were involved in some way securing Taylor Adams & Grundy?Last edited by KSAS; 15 November 2023, 06:52 AM.Comment

Matthew Lloyd suggesting AFL has gone soft in not allowing draft candidates to be skin fold tested, after listening to comments made by Beatson when he interviewed Clayton Oliver in 2015.
Matthew Lloyd has questioned whether the AFL and general public have “gone soft” when assessing a young player’s physical condition, and in particular skinfold testing. It comes after a comment made by Sydney Swans list boss Kinnear Beatson when asked about interviewing a young Clayton Oliver back in 2015 before the AFL draft. “Have we […]Comment

I am no expert on coaching, training, conditioning, fitness, recruiting, running a football team etc but isn't there enough pressure place on these 17 - 18 year olds to succeed in their football ambitions re- getting drafted etc, than to place the additional burden of skin fold testing. These are still young men, still in their teens, coping with expectations, hopes, desires still maturing, learning new life skills, committing their careers in the sporting field. It is my understanding that males can take up to the age of 25 for their bodies to fully mature so don't force these young men to have more pressures place upon them. Sorry for the rant.Comment

Dow I’m terrible at knowing young ruckman or KPD talent at 17 yrs of age and what trajectory they take
I watched a mates son who got picked by GWS academy years back
194cm
94kg
14.4 beep test
10min x 3kms
17yrs of age
Smashed Matthew Flynn bigger at every contest
Made Finlasyon in one on one marking yell out “some one else’s turn please”
Too which our new coach and GWS academy coach at the time Spike McVeigh scream at the surrounding players watching “dooooooo something”
Coaching at its finest right there…….just scream a nothing comment
And that kid never made it past these guys who went on have played a fair bit of Snr AFL footy
But……..this kid did end up smashing a 96 Atar at a rough and tumble high school
I have no idea with the talls at 17yrs of age"be tough, only when it gets tough"

That’s around Sheldrick, Konstanty, Will Hayward and Dean Towers territory with our past drafting… so we could do ok or do badly with one or both.Comment
