I find it amusing how this phantom draft had Sydney making two bids at the same pick. They've seen the Swans in action at the draft table before.

Well, it looks like we won’t be taking Green, as Twomey has predicted it - and as first rate as he is, he never gets us right.

He also has Pies bidding on Cleary at what becomes 25.

He does flag we’re trying to use a future first to get up the board with our first pick but are struggling to find suitors, as well as potentially split 12 if we think there will be value in holding two picks around 17-20 with preferred picks off the board by 12. I personally don’t mind the latter

“The late first-round bolter could be Swans academy midfielder Caiden Cleary, who’s also been linked to a Magpies bid. Cleary has had a terrific 2023 campaign — he won All-Australian honours after averaging 29.2 touches for the Allies while he also impressed for the Swans’ VFL team, averaging 17.7 tackles across six matches against bigger bodies — but a top-30 would be too early for some clubs.“

The report today from foxsports above - is that actually true that CC averaged 17.7 tackles across 6 games?

That is an insane number I have never ever seen before?

        Anyone?

17.7 tackles averaged across 6 games of footy?

People need to understand that all Phantom's, except Twomey, are feeding off each other and this draft in particular is likely to be all over the place. The majority of Phantoms in the media are cobbled together by a person who has seen next to no underage footy and wouldn't know any clubs list as well as tuned in club supporters.

The fact that KB uttered Will Green's name in his latest appearance on Twomey's show means we are definitely not taking him. We may however be interviewing him multiple times as a smokescreen, same as we've done in past drafts.

Twomey will be watching to see who KB visits in the last 24 hours to try and get a read LOL

Twomey's phantom draft is another phantom draft showing Sydney making two consecutive bids on players tied to other clubs.

Yes, Sydney did that last year, but there was a reason - Sydney was buying time to complete a live pick trade.

Will Sydney make multiple bids again this year? It's possible, but I doubt Sydney would do that just to annoy the other clubs. I can see one bid happening but not two. If Sydney make multiple bids, expect a live pick trade to follow (such as swapping for two picks from North Melbourne).

I think Will Green would be a good choice. I'm still expecting a KPD to be drafted such as Murphy, but would be happy with Green.

I’d be bidding on Rogers and Croft. They’re clearly top 15, which is where our bid now approx falls. It’s not spite, it’s reasonable.

One other notable issue in a lot of the phantoms is how far Murphy has fallen. He was apparently poor post champs, and sure I’ve read a couple of pieces saying critical parts of his testing worried people as it suggested he lacked the power and explosion needed off the mark and on the leap to take on the best key forwards.

Twomey saying a number of clubs will trade for the three GC picks currently in the 20's with GC getting a large haul of junk picks in return.

Means pick 45 won't be moving in but later picks in the 60s and 70s will move up the board a long way.

The AFL really has to fix this farce

agree picks 17 and 18 back to back would be interesting as an exchange for pick 12...............if we are indifferent arriving at pick 12

I suppose it lets us move towards "two positional players" vs "one best player" ie because we have absolute certainty with two back to back picks once we arrive at pick "17"

But the opposite view is that between 12 and 17 there could be some very good players that "might" get to 17 if we are lucky?

I suppose if we need specific roles into the future and we like what we see in the first round of picks..................then 17/18 makes sense

i am still bemused with another phantom (this time Cal T) have us selecting a ruck. Not sure a ruck is a pressing need this ye with ladhams, mcandrew and possibly may as a rookie. Still ned another tall defender, with hamling surely still a worry from an injury point of view, and a strong mid in the mould of Josh.

I would not like to play poker with KB. I believe all the draft experts have all but given up trying to forecast a correct Swans selection. They have to put someone down on their list but for all intents and purposes, history shows when it comes to the Swans, it's pure speculation.

KB loves to use smoke and mirrors to keep everyone guessing. I find it best to just sit back and watch it all unfold, rather than take any of these predictions too seriously.

Being a numbers bloke, I had a look at the pick swaps Twomey says will take place before the draft starts.

Gold Coast will end up with picks 26, 30 & 32 to match Walter at pick 2. A bid on Read at pick 10 would be matched with picks 34, 37 with a bit of pick 44 which will drop back to mid 50s. If Rogers is bid around our pick, Gold Coasts 50's and 60's picks would get swallowed.

It's head numbing stuff to work out but reckon Gold Coast may take a small deficit into round 2 next year. Still shows what a farce the points are when you can pick up four players of the ilk of the GC haul this year for such junk picks.

Being reported that if Curtin slides to pick 6 and beyond, WCE will offer their future first, which is highly likely to be the 2024 pick 1.

So doubt we have any hope of moving up with that pick on the table.

                            Yep

                            That’s that then

Maybe we will drift back to get what we need positionally via a pick 17 and 18 which will become approx 21 and 22

That depends on whether clubs in that range are willing to trade out their early pick if they've done research on draft prospects and taken the pick to draft night.

If West Coast are really willing to offer next year's first round pick, they should be talking to North Melbourne. North have five first-round picks. Giving pick 3 for West Coast's 2024 first round pick has to be worth considering.
