It depends how much he is wanting dollar wise (which will depend on how much North offer him), and how much Warner signs for, if it isn't already too late (e.g., if Parker asks to be released at the end of this year).
We don't want to be paying say, $350-450K for 2026, if we are expecting him to be an injury cover player, behind Sheldrick, Cleary, maybe Corey Warner, and maybe a younger-by-11-months Taylor Adams.Comment

I'd we didn't have Adams it would be a nice win win for Player and Club.
The fact we have Adams for 2yrs, not glued onto the club and not as good makes it messy.
Playing Wicks before him for 2 months and therefore denied him a chance at his 300th this year is disgracefulComment

Suggest we don't try and rewrite history here or play 'alternate histories'.
Parker was injured for the first several rounds. He then played 3 games in the VFL - in the third he got himself suspended for 6 weeks with a moment of madness.
He then came back in the first (or was it second) seniors game after his suspension ended, and he has played ever since.
Sure, you can argue he should have come straight back into seniors to begin with, and we'd be probably on a different path.

Yes he got suspended but was in a situation he shouldn't have been in.
Mills straight in after nearly a 12 month injury, Parker jumping hurdles even after suspension, not injured and played as a Sub behind a bloke that wouldnt be in any other teams 22Comment

As I said - no use playing alternate histories.
Mills is sole club captain. Rightly or wrongly - he was always going to come in once fit, especially in his first season in that role.
I think the portrayal of Parker being hard done by because he was asked to come back via ressies ignores the fact the seniors were absolutely flying at the time as well - I can understand some reluctance to tinker with a winning formula. And he was coming off significant injury. I would of thought 1 game in ressies, maybe 2 would have been plenty - but I can see how he was there for all of 3 weeks. Its not like he was in the Magoos for 3 months or something.
And 'being in a situation he shouldn't' doesn't excuse a stupid act on the footy field. He contributed to not being able to make 300 through his own stupidity, and nothing more.

Stupid act.. hmm things happen split second. We all know that it wasn't the right thing to do, but it is not as if he went Byron Pickett style to pick the other player off. Luke is not a dirty player, but he can give some lip (think Dylan Shiel
).
Notwithstanding, I really admire Luke Parker from afar - I have also had the chance to meet him personally. He is a very smart individual, the heart and soul of the club, who has been unrelenting in his will to win, a massive competitor. Re North, I personally think that Luke assessed everything .. including where the Swans are at, the opportunities that he will have to play (North vs Sydney), where he wants to live post football, where he can forge a career post football and the $$ on offer. You cannot begrudge him this. I hope he finishes his career with the Swans, but i daresay think that he will not. and it is sad that he may be a two-club player...Last edited by Syd76; 11 September 2024, 03:06 PM.Comment

Parker and Adams are both doomed and would only be a cover for a younger player next year. If we lose or even if we win this GF, we would need to reinvent our team structure to get the most out of next year which means we will try and blood younger players. And the obvious ones under the pump would be the ones who are slower players or older ones - Adams, Parker, Rampe, Lloyd fit that bill. Rampe and Lloyd are playing quite well and dont seem to have slowed down. The other thing that will need some addressing next year would be our forward setup. We need a super pressure small forward. Konstanty hasn't played well in the VFL and would probably be delisted. Cleary can do that job and should get the first start next year. Same with Sheldrick. Caleb Mitchell has also done well and looks like someone who has potential. Maybe this draft we target someone who can play the mid and forward role especially the pressure small forward role. And a tall defender. Again, we have been pretty fortunate with injuries this year, who knows what next year will bring about on that front.Comment

Makes sense on one hand given Amartey is so inconsistent with goal output, and if Parker is definitely leaving at year end. He could kick 50 goals for us next year.
Then there is chicken and the egg, if Parker hasn't decided yet, this might push him out. Also, do we want to give Stringer two years (he is leaving the Bombers as they won't extend him past his one year contract trigger), when we have Adams (for three more years) who is going to be pushed forward due to Sheldrick and hopefully Campbell's development etc. We also have Cleary who will be getting games next year as a half forward.
A lot of our team list will depend on what happens with Chad Warner at the end of our campaign or before the end of 2025, and whether Mills finds form and fitness again to play in the midfield.
