I don't think we are desperate for a key defender, mainly because I see Patrick Snell a an AFL ready player who might be even good enough for some games next year. And Will Edwards has all the tools to be an excellent defender, but needs to improve on his knowledge of playing the position. He might be slower to develop as a one on one defender, since he spent a fair bit of time as a key forward. And Cochran looks a good prospect in this year's draft.

I've also been in favour of playing McDonald and Amartey as our 2 key forwards, with the possibility of moving McLean to defence.

I think we should take a KPP, preferably a forward, with one of our first 2 picks. Plus Cochran, would give us another 2 KPPs from the draft, which should be fine.

I don't mind drafting Jesse Dattoli with our other pick in the 20s. Seems our best need other than KPPs.

Always hard to get excited about guys playing well in the 2s and yet to debut..... More likely to be delisted as opposed to being a key player in a 22.

Roberts the only player less than 3yrs in the team.
Id back Cleary and Sheldrick to definitely step up, jury still out on the rest despite what they have done in the 2s

With talls they may not give you great overall service through the years but when you are at the pointy end you cannot manufacture one and every team that is successful has one. Obviously they are cherry on top rather than the Wayne Carey types nowadays but every team needs a dominant one if they want to be successful. We need to be aggressive to now go after one next year coz we are in the window and we would be there for at least a few years.
I haven’t watched the twos to think any thing about snell and Edwards but if they are good enough let’s get them few games next year and let’s decide if we have a good one or not.

I had some doubts when you first made the McLean to defence suggestion, but since then he's become our go-to relief ruck.
I just can't think of any relief ruck that's 'rested' in defence in recent decades.
So if BigMac gowes down back we need another relief ruck - we can barely trust Amarty to run out a game as a forward, unless he improves his tank - can we expect him to relief-ruck as well?

Maybe McLean can be developed to become our new Sammy- nowhere near as good at this stage of course, but he can take a good mark and as Ludders suggests, can be very useful in defence to help out against monster forwards. Up front, it’s Logan and Amartey- hopefully Logan will be more influential and Joel improves and shows consistency. Buller should be given a few games to see if he can contribute at this level. I see our 2nd ruck as a weakness as Grundy can’t do it on his own. Ladhams is a huge question mark but deserves a run of games to finally decide whether he’s worth persevering with.

Jack's brother Matt is a 199cm Def/Fwd slated to go 2 picks later to GWS. Matt would be the preferred the choice for us?

IMO Armatey is very much a confidence player. Noticed watching the game live v Essendon at Marvel late in the season, first 3 qtrs Armatey couldn't get a sniff & easily out manoeuvred.

Played 2nd ruck in the last qtr, won a few hitouts which seemed to lift his confidence as he then kicked 2 goals from strong marks up forward. Playing more 2nd ruck & being more involved early, might improve his effectiveness up forward.

I don't think it is set in stone where young talls will land up once they hit AFL-land. We recruited Heath Grundy, Ted Richards (via Essendon) and Tom McCartin as forwards.

There's a particular quirk with these pairs of twins and how they come up through the TAC Cup system, given they're invariably playing for the same side. Ben King mostly played as a defender while Max King was holding court in the forward line. But Ben has played almost exclusively as a forward after being drafted, and has had more impact thus far than brother Max, though ACLs and other injuries have hindered both at times. The McKays similarly found spots at opposite ends of the ground. They've basically stayed where they started. But would Ben McKay have provded to be a decent forward had he not had a twin? Would Harry have been a gun FB?

Once the Whitlocks find themselves at AFL clubs, they may too change position from where they've played their junior careers.

Time to perform,has the ability just no consistency.

If getting picked every week and backed in by the coaching staff even when you dont get near it doesnt give you confidence i dont know what does.

Agreed. He’s now played 50 games so it’s time to show some consistency. Kicking 9 in a game proves he can do it, but then getting none or 1 in others does not make a full forward. Could Plugger be enticed to help him out a bit?

Well Kirk Snr was delisted at least once from the rookie list and came back to become the absolute champion that he was. I am hoping that this means Kirk Jnr is an even greater talent. Not holding my breath though.
If we can rookie Francis we should. Hamling, I have no opinion. Clearly there are a few perceived deficiencies there (injury or capability or both) so hard to make a strong case for him (unlike Francis who has played some decent games for us at senior level)

Theoretically yes, in that we've delisted five players from the primary list. But it's a little bit more complicated, because as far as I know, clubs are allowed either 36, 37 or 38 players on the primary list. Last year we had 37, so if we wanted to keep the list at 37, it would involve using our four picks at the draft and then promoting one of Edwards, Buller or Hanily from the rookie list. Alternatively, the club might decide to run with 36 or 38 players on the primary list.
