We'll never know because my parrallel universe transporter just ran over a rational bovine twice and is now non operational, however I have a feeling that MOL could be more productive in a forward pocket against the oppositions 3rd best defender. Although it could well be that his condition is such that fullforward is limiting the damage by reducing his involvement somewhat.

Whoever said anything about '... and pick 19'? A player who realistically has 2 years left playing at his peak couldn't be worth more than a 25 y.o. fringe player with plenty of experience who could easily become a regular selection at his new club, plus an early-20s 'who knows?' player. IIRC, we gave up 3 (theoretical) players (in the form of 3 draft picks) to get Barry Hall to play (at least/hopefully) 8 or 9 seasons with us. There's no way that 2 seasons of Spider can be worth the same sort of numbers.

From what I understand the swans haven't offered their first pick yet but if thats what it would take to get him here then I'd be happy to do so. I really don't think Saddington holds much trade value at all, and if the other player on offer is Powell then I believe taking those two for an AA player with probably two years left in him would be seen as a bit of a risk.

That being the case I think most teams would want a draft pick as well, and given that this years draft is supposed to be both average and fairly even, pick 19 isn't a hell of a lot different from pick 40. Let's not forget we also traded Shannon Grants entire career for a few years of Wayne Schwass and no one seemed to mind.

We got to understand that 3 years ago, Everitt was traded for pick 8 and pick 24 (which later became pick 6 and pick 22 from a weak draft).

Now three years on, what is his value? For me, pick 8 = his first three years (which were spent), pick 22 = his next two years. So pick 22 for Everitt is about fair deal.

Giving pick 19 + Saddo for him is way way way over the odd. The thing I dislike most is to underrate our own players.

Saddo is surely better than a mid-range 2nd round pick from this draft. He got at least 80-100 games in his body. That is as good as picking up a kid with the expectation of 110-130 games (first 30 games are not counted) which is precisely the best one could hope for with a mid-range 2nd round pick. Counting the cost of training and nurturing the kid, one should have the picture of how much value Saddo has.

I guess our difference of opinion isn't in Everitts worth then just in that of Saddington. I really just don't rate him at all. Nothing against him, anyone that pulls on the red&white is a champ in my book but I just don't see him playing AFL much longer no matter where he is.

This is quite a strange discussion. Unless you think that Jolly can ruck a whole season by himself or Doyle will go through 2006 uninjured or Ball won't retire, then we need another ruckman. Spida seems to be on offer and he's certainly one of the best around (attitude - we'll just have to trust our coaching staff's judgement). By the time Spida does retire, we'll know where we stand with Doyle and anyone coming through the ranks.

No, it's not our only problem. But it's our major one for next year. We also need tall forwards coming through to replace Magic, and Baz if he was injured. We seem to only have Vogels. And a tall back to release Leo would be nice. But they have to be problems B and C.

We just won the Grand Final so our team, clapped out FJ or not, isn't in bad shape. Our likely main opponents have problems too. Our ruckman problem is nowhere near as bad as the Eagles' need for a dominant forward - and I don't see where they are going to get him. And the Saint really, really need better training/medical staff - and I'll be interested if they accept that and go looking.

Like it or not, we now have an elite team. Noone will underestimate Monty or LRT again and there's lots of improvement shown and yet to come from Dempster and Moore - and Nick Davis, Schneids, etc. It'd be great to give some other kids more game time and see who steps up. But Spida (or Cox?) is likely to be the difference between ending up at the bottom of the eight, where everyone predicts, and challenging for back to back flags. I'm greedy and know what I'd prefer.

One could argue that Magic gets the 3rd defender every week as is. The matchup difficulties he creates dictates that a tall can't go with him but neither can a small. He gets the opposition's best mid-defender every week, which in theory is the 3rd best defender.
