2025 Preseason.

With training kicking off for 2025 yesterday, it's time to start a thread for how that's going: who's flying, who's injured, are there any changes to training methods, how are the new recruits settling in, do the Swans seem to be one big happy family, etc.

Hopefully there'll be a fair few training reports, from forum members who manage to attend the odd session, as those reports seem to be appreciated by many.

Impressive runs by Corey, young Cleary and Matty Roberts. Hope Corey can step up and play regularly with the Chad!

Yes, I thought Corey was a touch unlucky not to have played more AFL last season. He certainly has the athletic ability and generally appears to be too good for the VFL, but has never really had the game time to establish himself in the top level.

Cleary looked barely out of breath in the video I could see - another Gulden run all day by the looks of it.

Yes, Cleary is one of the players whose development I'm most interested in this season. While he did well playing as a small forward at AFL level, all his junior form says that he's definitely an inside mid. So hopefully he develops enough, to give us more hardness at midfield contests.

With a good pre-season, I reckon he is nailed on to play season 2025 in seniors as a small forward. But yes - longer term will be interesting to say the least.

There was a game earlier in the year when Corey was sub, and came on quite early due to an injury. I think it was against the Bombers and he effectively played three quarters. He was used in the defensive forward/high half forward roles. From memory, he did quite well and had four (?) shots on goal, but missed a couple of easy-ish ones on the run. It was a couldabeen game had he nailed those goals.

I'm to be convinced he'll ever nail a best 22, but he certainly gives himself every chance and perhaps could be a better option than Wicks.

Agree with this. I'm not convinced at this point he will quite make it at AFL level, but he needs a good chance to prove it one way or the other. And certainly, I'd prefer to see him given a chance in the midfield group, then to see players who aren't good enough for sure/shouldn't be in there to begin with getting opportunities.

Its a big season for him next year however - he needs to take that next step for sure.

Lloyd, Cunningham, Rampe, Adams and Fox are certainly best 22 players that will probably feel the same pressure as Luke Parker in 2024

There is now way that I would have thought Luke Parker coming into season 2024 would have struggled to be a best 22 player

You could argue the same for Lloyd, Rampe, Cunningham and Adams. In particular the first 3 players.

Mills back full time will in my opinion be a certainty for a centre mid role. That makes it hard for Patch Adams to start or be in the 22.

Roberts has completed changed his body through last season and even more so his running ability has gone through the roof in this pre season. He could definitely take his more simplistic role in the backs and evolve to a more midfield and HFF. Roberts was known well in his junior years at playing a mid forward role and being a great user of the ball in the HFF type role. Matt seriously went next level in 2024 and he looks hungry at training. That would leave Adams high and dry if Robbo went more mid / HFF in 2025.

Which would then provide a serious opportunity in the backline for Corey or Mitchell, Snell or Andrew.

and Bice looks really ready for a HBF wing type role.

probably the most genuine in the system players ready for some time.

Corey was prominent in that clip. He looked ripped & intense, same with Roberts. Predicting they'll both take the next step with Corey being a regular in the Seniors. I was impressed with hIs leap when doing the hanger drill, it looked the most spectacular!

Dattoli looked liked he could also take a high grab.
