The sticking point for them would be the 22nd pick back to us this year. I am sure they don’t want that. But we should stand on our offer for a player that wants out. Two players in Hayward and Florent who are in their prime at 26 and 27 years of age and with good kicking ability that they lack. I am sure they will weigh that up against draft picks that they have mucked up for years.
it seems to me that Hayward probably was ready to sign with Carlton last year but decided against it. So he is happy to go. Both were very good players for us over the years.
I don’t think I will let Rowbottom go though. I think even if he is not the best player i am sure he sets himself very good standards and will be a good asset for the junior players to have around. And there would be fire in his belly for next year to prove himself.

Sydney should push for pick 39 or 45. These are the only two points-bearing picks that Collingwood have, even if a later pick needs to go back the other way.

Pick 22 to match a bid or draft King directly.
If Carlton still held their second-round pick, that could be offered instead and job done. Instead, it's possible that Sydney will need to offer a little more, perhaps a future second-round pick.

Has Carlton knocked back 22. As for pies and indeed Curnow if 22 is indeed knocked back this will test Cox and Keane. Easy for us to suggest Ollie look elsewhere and then for him and Wil be offered up for Curnow. Stay strong I say 38 or draft for Buller (or better still return to us) and its 22 back from blues in OUR deal and no change or he is still with Carlton.👍 1Comment

Agree with you on Buller, we are going to need additional Second Round picks to secure 2 academy players ((King and Carmichael) with the hope that the others slide through to the rookie draft.
The problem we have is the number of spots available on the primary list. As I see it, even with the Curnow deal, we only have 4 spots available (Hayward, Florent, Fox, and Mitchell). The rest are all rookie list delistings, which means when you add Curnow, Rosa, Serong, and Max King there are no spots left as it currently stands.
There may be some shuffling of senior list players to the rookie list to create a spot. Someone like Taylor Adams for example, but this has to be agreed on by the player concerned with a guarantee that he will be redrafted on the rookie list.
Either way I can only see us taking 2 academy players in the primary draft with the hope the others will slip to the rookie draft.
I stand to be corrected if my numbers are not right, but this was based on 2025 players on both primary and rookie lists, and there may have been changes that I am not aware of.Last edited by BRS328; 15 October 2025, 10:45 AM.Comment

stuff bles and pies. as said in earlier post take it or leave it .pick 22 back and pick 38 from pies for buller. BE STRONG SWANS. You have already entered a danger zone with other swans players. How does chad feel when his contract is up.Comment

so we obviously DO NOT love what is at our first pick this year nor next (if we back ourselves to be a top4 type team and the slide of the pick)
Geelong obviously dont rate the next two minimum nor even the 2027 vs what they gain with Curnow upfront
yes we obviously dont have much cap hence two players offered that dont have the versatility and game winning that Charlie could add to our best team in a finals series
for me that is what it comes down to ........ does Curnow give us more come finals time in 2026, 2027, 2028, 2029 than Ollie and or Haywar
I think YES
Can we replace over the next few seasons what Hayward and Ollie provide now?
I think very much YES as we been building in those role and we are ready to replace in 2026 especially if we have more scoreboard pressure and move options to enter into our forwards with possession maintained !!!
Joel
Macca
Curnow
Heeney
Paps
etc
that is a mid and HBF delight as targets !!!!
Such a hard match up for defenders
Sam Wicks os on the up and up off HBF replacing Ollies traditional role.
Roberts is a very good decision maker and can play HBF
Cunningham is still cherry ripe for HBF and lloyd or wing like Ollie moved to more so in 2025
Haywards role......well if Curnow comes into our front six then I am more than happy with our forward rotation.........Heeney just goes back to higher percentage leads up front and lesser percentage mids
that is all class right there and makes us a serious contender vs where we are right now"be tough, only when it gets tough"

We should throw in Buller in the Carlton deal. He's not a FA, so doesn't get to choose where he goes. Or get Collingwood to send something to Carlton to finish the Curnow trade. Otherwise, just let it go. I really like Curnow, but the deal is so risky for us, there comes a point when you have to say No. Curnow will be 29 in a few months. If he doesn't work out, we've lost a huge amount of player capital.
I wouldn't be trading Rowbottom under any conditions. He's not far off being an elite midfielder.
Every year we have the same discussion about main list and rookie list spots. It never concerns me. It there's always a way to move players between lists.
I also wouldn't worry too much about points. We can always go into deficit and cut into next year if need be. We don't need much draft capital in the next couple of years with our current list demographic.👍 1Comment
