By Collingwood standards that would make Mick McGuane the Fabio of the 90's

As was discussed in detail at the time, he wasn't "untried" - he was simply not getting enough game time as backup to White.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I don't think that means "untried" as a ruckman.

To an extent, which is why the Dees were willing to let him go. If he was as good as he is now, they would have him and White. Obviously he wasn't completely untried, but he wasn't tested, if that's a better word.

I still doubt if they would have kept him anyway - they like to run with White playing about 70% or more of the game. Jolly showed what he could do in 2003 when White was injured, however when White returned in 2004 for a full season, Jolly was relegated back to minimal game time.

I think he might be just aspiring towards some nice little love handles to help in the process of having another child at the same time as a GF

Jolly's worth is relative. For a team like WC, they probably wouldnt take him for anything more than a 3rd rounder.

For us, now, and back then, a late 1st round pick turned out to be a bargain.
Plenty of other clubs in that position too.

He may not be the best around, but he's found himself in a position where demand far outstrips supply for players like him, and can pick, choose, and name his price.

IMO, a good ruck division is they key to premiership glory. Its not just the centre bounce work, its the telling mark in the last line of defense, the bob up in the forward line. A good ruckman dictates where the opposition's lesser ruckman plays.
Completely agree..And they (Eade & Thomas) are 2 expert exponents of the...'take over a good list and skrew it up'.
A mobile ruckmen is an absolute must.
Once again, great timing from Jolly.
