The Pavlich WA link was a (hopeful) reference to him being recruited from the sailors to sydney. Thanks for the Gastev call. Bevo had more of a dog day afternoon than a shocker. As Al Pacino said as the the little battling bank robber Sonny That's all they're interested in - it's a freak show to them. I can't control it, Sal - let'em say what they want. Forget it. It don't matter.
Bevan: How long has he got?

That one came back to bite me on the arse. But seriously a shocker is the result of ones own errors, omissions and stuff ups. A dogs day afternoon is having the roof fall in on you, then getting run over by a bus on the way to hospital and then having Nathan Rees visit you in hospital. Bevo had a dogs day.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

To those who wrote negative comments about Paul Bevan in this thread, does anyone want to say anything about that mark he took deep in the last quarter in the Round 8 Eagles game. It was "Barryist" in my opinion, and may have won the game and saved Sydney's 2009 seasonComment

That said, none of that changes the fact that he had a very ordinary afternoon at Cat Park last weekend - so may say "shocker", others a "dog day afternoon". I am not sure how backing into a pack 7 days later changes anything?Comment

What that courageous and very skilful mark does show is why he will be in the team agin next week. He does have a side of him that is well likedd by the selection panel. As the thread is titled "How long has Beavan got?" what it shows is that he will be there again next week. Also he has a long sequence of games so he is physically resilient which means he has a long time I think."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

Well, what a good performance from Bevan last night.I thought he was our best defensive player as he didn't have the shocker clangers a couple of his mates on a losing backline did.He was as responsible as Jack for us winning with that great mark in the closing minutes.Seems he has gone from villain to hero in a week on this board. They say a week is a long time in footy.Comment

Dumb arse argument. I am not 100% sure but I would be flabbergasted if anyone here, at Big Footy, at Nick's Pie Page or whatever the @@@@ it is called or any other place where Bevo ever gets a mention has ever questioned the bloke's courage, his work ethic, or his commitment to the team. As his greatest champion has pointed out elsewhere, the kid has done it before (against Freo last year) and it was not a new side to his playing character then.

Any comparison with Sarich should also mention disposal skills. Sarich was a notoriously unreliable kick, Bevo has his share of problems in that area too.Pay peanuts get monkeysComment

To say he saved the season is humourous at best. We don't even know that it saved a goal!
I thought it merely went some way to getting back the the goal scored on him a few minutes before when he was isolated and easily dismissed by his opponent in a one-on-one marking contest.
Get the blinkers off."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.Comment

Sarich wasn't too fond of Shinboners either. I clearly remember a day at Lakeside against North when another mean footballer, Bob Pascoe went to ground, Sarich went to break away and Pascoe stuck out a leg. They wore real boots in those days: Sarich altered his stride and instead of being tripped caught Pascoe with the point of his boot. They carted him off with a broken leg.
