When he could be saying - Exciting time, start of a new era.... I just thought after reading, that if I was one of the group of kids, I would probably take it to heart. No kicking here.
In fairness to Roos he did say the kids were the better players and that his comment was directed more at the more senior players who he believed had lost site of their roles.

That article was written about a half hour or so after the game had ended. Perhaps Roos was a trifle upset still.
It seems it's ok for posters to vent their spleen so soon after a disappointing loss but not ok for the coach!

Have you read this thread!?! Apparently it's not OK to be disappointed after a loss.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

Imagine what the reactions would be if he'd said he was happy with conceding 9 unanswered goals in the final quarter of a game.

I have read this thread - well, most of it. And I think it has very little to do with just being upset after a loss.

I certainly wouldn't accuse you of being sanctimonious, as you need to be making some sort of point. You seem to be directing your post towards me, but I don't know where you get alot of your ideas from, including being "noisy and abusive", apart from within your own @@@@@@ up head. All I can say in response is - don't worry Chicken Little, the sky isn't falling - and hope it's enough to see you through today.
            Is this the Sybil thread?

              Yes!

There's only so much one can take when rehashing old ground.

So you don't consider the post preceding mine as insulting?

Not particularly. But if you want to discuss, do it via PM.

It certainly wasn't started becuase I was upset over a loss. It was strated because Roos is not the man for the job anymore. Time for him to move on with Barry (x2), the Irishman, MOL, Buchy and just about the rest of the 2005 gang (Kirk and ROK still have plenty to offer, probably Malceski too and I am sure there are a couple of others that I cannot be bothered trying to remember atm).

I agree with Liz. The problem with this thread is the lack of sober, reasoned discussion. Whether that's precipitated by disappointment over a loss or not is irrelevant. For the most part it's just ill-informed, unreflective, off-the-top-of-the-head ratbaggery, and as such it just isn't interesting. I stopped reading posts at BigFooty for that reason, but I'd come to expect a little better from this place.

If we lost the GF more than half the people on this site would of blamed him.
Got give him some credit a few of the swans players would of probably been axed if Roosy didn't take over the reins.
That may of cost us finals victories

I get the feeling you've never thought Roos was the man for the job, even when we were winning finals.

It is beyond me how anyone can determine whether he is or isn't the man for the job now. Clearly we are embarking on a new phase, new because the club seems to have now acknowledged it. I am actually quite excited to see how Roos copes with a completely different challenge, and how long it takes him to build a competitive side.

I do think there has been a marked change in recruitment philosophy over the past couple of years, with significantly more focus on using the higher picks to get players with good kicking skills and excellent "footy brains". From what I have seen of them thus far, each of Vez, Meredith, Hannebury and even Gilchrist can boast their best asset as being a combination of kicking skills and footy vision. Bird is a little different in that his ball winning ablility is probably his number one asset. Not seen enough (or anything) of Heath or Johnston to know.

2010 will give us a good look at how he is able to shape this list for the future.

I don't expect to play finals, but I do expect him to put together a competitive team that gets better as time goes on and unearths some talent that excites the faithful.

I don't believe he has years to do this though, I think we will know by the end of next year whether he is the right man for the next phase, however he absolutely deserves the opportunity.
