I have a feeling his first contract had him the ability to earn upto 450-500k with a portion attributed to match payments and the cynic in me suggests this is why it is possible to have 60+ Possessions in a ressies game and not get a auto call up

I remember when C Jones at Saints had a bonus in his contract for playing 16 games and saints kept him out the last few games stranded on 15 games despite him playing in the best so they didn't have to pay his bonus.

We need to free up salary cap space so we can sign Nat Fyfe next year when he becomes a free agent. If we trade Tom Mitchell and the rumours are true that Tom Derickx will retire to pursue a full time modelling career unless he's offered a big contract extension, then we could be in the running.

Our 2 Toms are superstars, no doubt, but perhaps a bit too greedy.

Under no circumstances should we sign Nat Fyfe.
This is not to say he wouldn't be a great Swans player, on the contrary, he has been too good for us on many occasions in the past but consider what he may cost us.
Its not just that we have to make room for him in the salary cap now, how can we re-sign players like Kennedy, Parker, Hannebery, Rampe, Heeney, Mills, etc. when their time comes.
Lets not get ahead of ourselves, we have a great list with astounding room for improvement but it has been a trademark of this great club that players love playing for us. I was worried when we enlisted Tippett and felt worse when we went with Franklin. Thankfully both of those have proven their worth but again at some cost to the development of Sam Reid.
I believe that if we go after Fyfe, we risk losing more than we would gain.

It's interesting listening to the radio this afternoon in Melbourne on 1116 SEN, and this question came up and they quoted 500k a year would get it done. but a lot of people on here - myself included believed his contract his on now would be equal too or near enough to that. By 2018 Heeney will be the new Fyfe anyway (barring injury) - probably a superior version who is a better kick.

The figures that are bandied around in the media or fan forums are usually higher than what it actually the case - Mitchell probably got $350K last time, which was still a lot for an injured reserves player at the time.

Heeney will obviously have big days, & as a result, the opposition will put resources into stopping him. He will therefore still be an asset on any so-called "off days".
I think Mills will end up in the Fyfe class - it won't matter what the opposition does - they will just have to hope for the best.
Together, both are going to be huge for our future success.

The beauty is we have both, but if we could only have one, I'd take Heeney. Like Fyfe he will be a powerful midfielder who is so good overhead he could dominate up forward as well.

Mills should also be an elite midfielder, but more in the standard mold - but I think Heeney will go a level above given he adds another dimension, as Fyfe does (when injury free).
