Roos made it clear when the Pies started welshing on the "steak knives" that Jolly was contracted and the club had no obligation to trade him. I think Roos made it pretty clear (at least via his media comments) that the Pies would have to add something else to the table.

I suspect that without him being contracted, they might even have wriggled on the pick 14. As it was, they badly wanted him and realised they weren't going to get him for peanuts.

Even if the Swans are amenable to Veszpremi moving on, the fact he is contracted means there is no "obligation" to gift him to a club that thinks they can get him for a 3rd round pick, just because he is as yet unproven.

Wouldn't suprise me to hear McVeigh's name mentioned at trade time.

Whether a trade will actually result is anyone's guess.

Offered by the Swans or chased by another team? It's a pretty generic statement that could apply to many players.

Sherman.... wasn't he the one who shooshed the Swans fans at the SCG?

Apropo nothing, at training a few weeks back some of the boys were barefooted.....uglier feet I have never seen, crashing footies in soft slippers is not doing them any favours.

McVeigh must not be traded. We have lost the big general, we cannot afford to lose the little general. He is important.

I doubt he will come to Sydney if he wants to move back to Melbourne. The exodus from the Lions is amazing. The team is imploding under Voss.

Trade week 101 by Pickering... Melbourne clubs aren't coughing up enough cash so leak a story to the media about a huge offer from the Swans.

Surely there are better players for us to be throwing that sort of money at.

If we can get him for a 2nd round pick then I'd be happy as he is a potential game breaker, consistency is an issue though

I agree - I reckon they'll soon be priming Fev to do something dumb so that they can axe him and save enough money to be able to field a team.

Its as though the salary cap has come as a surprise for them. Maybe Bradshaw was doubling up as their accountant and they thought Fev could take that role on too.

Not surprising. The way he approached trade week last year was nothing short of disgraceful. There's a difference between being aggressive in trade week and simply turning your playing list into a meat market.

Apart from picking the wrong horses, what exactly did he do last year that was any different to what the Swans did???

Not sure that is entirely fair. The only two players he appeared to put on the market against their will were Rischetelli and Bradshaw. Neither was impressed. But a couple of years ago, the Swans traded Schneider, reportedly against his preferences, and made it known to a few others they were available for trade had a suitable offer been received. One of those was Jude, who responded by playing his best season for a while the year after, and has sustained that since.

Voss has also been criticised for the players he actually traded for. None of Raines, Clarke or Buchanan had much impact, Maguire was plagued by injury (but was a draftee rather than a trade), while Fev's contribution was mixed and Staker's was positive. Sydney's recruitment of other teams' fringe players was just as bold as the Lions - the difference being that Mumford, Kennedy and McGlynn's contributions were positive, while Seaby's injury is perceived as being bad luck, rather than a bad recruitment decision. With hindsight, it makes the Swans recruiters look like geniuses and the Lions' like chumps but there can be a fine line between success and failure and a fair bit of it hinges on luck.
