Tippett!!

Tippett stuff is interesting. Swans offering nothing of substance. Crows lining up on a daily basis to bag him and say they don't want him back. Meanwhile Suns say they wouldn't take him in draft.so if swannies sit and do nothing we get Tippett for nothing. Swans say they will act honorably but if crows keep being so dumb and keep saying Tippett is a worthless crock how can we then be seen to be offering up one of our jewels. I know crows and their fans are dumb but I didn't think they were this dumb.
The longer the saga drags on the better it is for the Swans.
I will suggest the deal is done, with the Swans paying below value, but the Crows have to wait till the last moment to pull the trigger to "show" they have done all they can to get the best deal. The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

"ADELAIDE has confirmed it would have no hesitation in losing Kurt Tippett for nothing if a deal can't be secured with the Sydney Swans or another club."

We obviously want him, he obviously wants us, so this first grade tool Noble is saying that an agreement might not be reached, yer right.......
Let him go through to the PSD then, the way the Crows have been slagging off at him and his attitude, you can't imagine any other teams being interested so with a little bit of luck he'll walk to us for free. Would serve the AFC right.
Doesn't the AFC realize that they are the ones that stand to be the biggest losers out of all this?Last edited by Jewels; 14 October 2012, 08:33 AM.Comment

On the topic of rookie listing - the website could be out of date. Cambo was definitely promoted just before finals. Cunningham was up then down then up again. Pretty sure he's still senior listed.Superman still wears Brett Kirk PyjamasComment

I think people need to start looking at this from the other point of view. Imagine if this were Reid out of contract and wanting a trade to, say, Collingwood. Would we be happy with the Pies offering a pick in the 20s plus Rounds, or Sinclair, or the like? No, we'd be up in arms. There are some on here that still think we were dudded by getting "just" pick 14 and a lower pick in return for Jolly.
I have no idea how this is going to play out. The club has shown itself in the past to be not just fair traders, but also pragmatic ones. They will know that pick 22 plus a reserves player is not "fair" for a player they are offering a sizeable contract to. I find it a little odd that they have offered a contract to Tippett without having identified a player of reasonable value that they are prepared to lose in the process.Comment

There is two weeks left. If it wasn't for this story, trade period would be dead for the next two weeks. My conspiracy theory is that it has been already settled and the AFL and Clubs are using it for mavimum media exposure.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

I bloody hope Tippett goes into the PSD. If we can keep our pick 22 and Tippett no doubt we will be a force in the coming years.
I hope he falls into the PSD no other club seems to be interested and he only wants to come to one place. To be honest Tippett has really stuffed himself over if a trade doesn't eventuate to us and he goes into the PSD and another club comes in a big offer, he will have egg on his face.LRT. If it was Sammy I for one would be mad as hell, but I hope I would be wise enough to recognise his right to his life. I also think that no matter what happens he would get support from within the club and from us a well as someone who is worthy as a player and human being, and I doubt the club wouldn't NOT know until the last minute that he wanted to move on.
What appears to be happening at the AFC is an overall lambasting of Tippett and his forebears. The situation is that he wants out and at the last minute decides he wants to come to Sydney. Not a politically stable move agreed. But what the AFC etc are really furious about is the fact that he wants to leave. Period.
So the situation now is that Sydney would like him thank you very much, but we weren't planning for this and oh dear, this is what we have got, can we do a deal. Double oh dear, we have a good established and stable award winning team. We don't have any high end losers that we want to get rid of, and not even our South Australian team members want to go back to Adelaide. So, sorry, this is what is on the table, we hadn't actually budgeted for someone we didn't know wasn't happy with living in Adelaide.
I think Tippett on the move caught everyone on the hop. We don't want to lose our stable team. The stable team members don't want to go anywhere else. We have a number of youngun's who know they will be looked after at every level, even young Parker was nurtured through the tail end of the season as a sub after sustaining two solid injuries. We have in the past moved on three players, two who have turned their move south into positive outcomes. But it hurt like hell. And the proposed move of Bolton against his will brought the house down.
Bottom line is. No one wants to leave Sydney. We only have a basic offer to make as there aren't any more tickets to choose from.
that's my contribution to reaching towards 1,000 posts. Not all that cohesive, but it is sunday morning.
I think a bell should go off when we do.Last edited by Primmy; 14 October 2012, 10:17 AM.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

BRC is correct in respect of rookie elevations. Those made during the season are temporary only. They need to be officially elevated during the draft to become part of the senior list the following season. If both club and player want it, it is just a formality. A club just uses its last ND to elevate said rookie.
It wouldn't surprise me if both Cunningham and Heath are being dangled in front of other clubs in an attempt to get something more for the Tippett trade. Even though they have just three senior games experience between them, they both scream "AFL potential" and I think they have more value than most of the fringe players on our list. That said, I would be delighted if both are on our list next year.Comment

Primmy, I agree with most of what you say. My comments were about what a fair trade price is, rather than the sledging of Tippett. I agree that I'd expect the Swans to be exceeding gracious towards any player who wanted to leave, as indeed they were towards Jolly. Supporters getting nasty are one thing, but I am amazed by some of the nasty comments being attributed to Adelaide football club officials towards Tippett.
I am not so sure that Tippett has landed in the club's lap unexpectedly though. Comments in the media (which have been confirmed by the Swans) are that they approached Tippett's management in August, when he announced he didn't want to sign a new contract with the Crows. I think the whole "winning the premiership" without Tippett might have complicated things a bit. Emotionally, it is a little easier to be ruthless with a team that came close but didn't win, in terms of trading one or more players out. It is harder with a team that is still celebrating the ultimate victory, notwithstanding my earlier comments about needing to move on and improve, even as reigning premiers.Comment
