Sherman was traded to the Dogs, not drafted by them. The Swans showed interest in trading for him but he wasn't interested. Just as Tippett wasn't interested in being traded to any club other than Sydney. Once a player is in the draft, the parameters change.

Brilliant tactical decision by him wasnt it. Someone should look his manager up . A few years later he is delisted from his club of choice and he misses on an opportunity to be part of a premership team. Thats one to tell the grandkids.

        Tippett?

Seriously doubt he would have been part of the premiership team

Yep, he wanted to go to the Dogs because they looked a better team going forward. Just rewards for a bloke he may not have passed our "No dickheads" policy anyway.

Doesn't compare however to the all time greatest idiot move, that goes to Buckley. Only played one season at Brisbane then went to Collingwood because he wanted to play finals. Then ends up playing two losing grannies against Brisbane and never became a Premiership player but could have had three with Brisbane. Justice well served out there I reckon! O'Bree made the same move for the same failure.

Carlton official talking on SEN this evening was asked about taking Tippett. Said he wouldn't fit into their cap, but said he'd be gone well before Carlton had a pick in the draft. Ominous when their pick is way before ours!

                Hard to disagree with Malthouse.

"He wouldn't be worth that ($1 million),'' Malthouse said. "If he's worth half of that I think that's about the right amount of money."

Surely the $1M figure, which has been thrown around liberally for a while now, was always an over-estimation??? Now the dodgy dealings are coming out, plus the risk of deregistration, so his price on the market must be plummeting. I tend to agree with Malthouse too shock horror....

Adelaide have inflated his market value by paying him such a high salary in his last contract and offering him $800k to stay. So now that's his starting point for negotiations. That's just the way it seems to go. If some employer is paying you so much, it will cost the next employer even more to him to change company.

Honestly I'm at the stage (read: over the drama) where I'm nonplussed about whether we get him or not. Correct me if I'm wrong but both Buddy and Jack Riewoldt are coming out of contract next year and maybe we'll be better served redirecting our energy towards other targets like them.

At the end of 2010 I didn't think someone like BJ would leave the Saints when he seemed so passionate about playing with them. Things can change and we may have a better option than Tippett fall into our lap. Maybe if the Tiges keep failing or if Hawthorn don't breakthrough for a premiership those players might be open to a change.

We should hold firm on our initial offer and if GWS matches it and picks him up so be it. We'll move on with out premiership winning team.

Agreed too much garbage now with the Tippett deal, but the two you mention, even if available, both invoke the no dickhead policy.

Maybe, but forwards, good ones at least, have a bit of ego about them. They demand the ball and back themselves to kick a winning score or take a crucial shot for example. Our no dickheads policy has always had exceptions and those exceptions won us a premiership in 2005 as far as i'm concerned.

As long as their not a convicted felon or something and give their all for the team I don't really care what their character is like to be perfectly honest. I actually quite like Jack. Has a personality and doesn't let the media guys smother him from speaking his own mind - I wish more players at our club were forthright. You can't question his passion or competitiveness either. If he was available I would take him in a millisecond.

If rumours re Folau going back to NRL are right, and we'll know at 4pm, GWS will have a BUNCH of money...there goes Tippett if he isnt deregistered. Sheeds already said he was interested.

I'm not sure we could have held off GWS anyway regardless of Folau. If they want Tippett they will get him but still not sure he is the right move for them given their very young list and the steep rise in those original players contracts from next year.

If we don't get Tippett we'll be very dangerous at trade time next year as a cashed up and desirable destination club.

Looks like Adelaide and Freo will be cashed up but don't think they are as desirable as a destination as us.

I think we stick with original terms offered and if we are outbid/out picked then so be it. You can't let the Tippett recruitment dictate your whole list management stategy. I'm sure that will be our stance.
