    Tippett?

I hope they can too, but I just can't see it being viable for team balance. LRT can play forward, but can he play there with Tippett , resting ruck, Reid and Goodes in there? Conversely, can he play back when all of Reg, Ted and AJ are there ? If he does play, I would think he will be playing forward / ruck, with him and Tippett both providing a chop out to Mummy and Pyke playing in the Magoos. Both scenarios leave either Pyke or LRT out of the side. That's just my opinion though and I hope im wrong.

I think your probably right....But this conundrum only occurs with all available. There will be a large chunk of time when there are injuries to cover...So IMO, it's a good conundrum to have.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned somewhere in the novel that is this thread, however I'm a bit worried that if we get Tippett, all the media/non swans people will talk about when we win games is how we have an unfair advantage due to the salary cap.

Oooh indeed. What a stunning article. Quayle must have very good sources in Vladland to get that detail. All this time we've been wondering what the real story was, now we know. Reckon the Adelaide board will be in meltdown.

This however can't be compared to what Carlton did, this really is dabbling at the fringes not overpaying the cap by heaps over many years like Carlton. Bigget impact still to come for the Crows will be having to sack a few employees including the CEO. It reads like they were complete bungling amateurs in trying to do their fringe fiddling.

Unfortunately we have been dragged into the mire with them, reputation wise :-(

Yes great article - seems to sum things up pretty well - that Emma really knows her stuff. I agree with the last post too - whether we like it or not (or whether we care), this has done collateral brand damage to the Swans just by way of our involvement with this deal. He'd better be worth it!

I don't understand how the Swans' reputation is damaged. We didn't try to hold them to the 2nd round pick agreement, and as in all negotiations, the offer changed a bit as it dragged on. I don't see how the Swans are implicated at all, unless it's the suggestion that we knew about the clause and didn't dob them in. And we offered what we had to offer. It wasn't fair to break up a premiership winning team. It would be immoral to trade our injured Gary. I think the negotiations started before the season's end, and neither side expected the Swans to be premiers. I'm sure hawthorn got Burgoyne and Gibson after they won a premiership and it didn't generate the same amount of resentment as the Swans have copped.

Jono2707 is correct, the Swans brand will suffer some collateral damage just by proximity (association is too strong a word) with this scandal DirtyKurt. There's no evidence that we did anything wrong, but in the "court of public opinion" evidence isn't all that important.

Speaking of which I was in Melbourne yesterday and flicked on the car radio, and was interested to hear Daniel Harford telling all and sundry that DirtyKurt wasn't worth what he's being offered. That he's worth half a mill a season, no more, and we would be paying "overs."
Which I thought strange because during the trade period he was suggesting our first draft choice plus Jessica would involve us paying "unders."

Frankly the melbourne media can go bite themselves, they treat us like pariah's. From an iinsular melbourne point of view having heathen foreigners win their flag is horrible, but having an apostate club win the flag is even worse.

Great article. Going through some Crows people must have been involved very much an internal perspective, not outward looking in.

I think we come out looking pretty good. We ignored the deal, offered a 1st round pick, albeit knowing Crows weren't in a great bargaining Position.

The article shows that the problem was a lack of alignment between the senior crows on what hey should do. I mean seriously knowing they would likely need to trade Tippet, how did they get themselves in a place with no free list spots? They were probably go to be in a position to trade for a quality young player from GC.

                    Sheer incompetence

Why aren't van berlo and Dangerfield also charged if Tippet is?

The club that has egg all over its face is Adelaide.Sydney has played all its negotiations with a straight bat.Adelaide faces the wrath of its supporters, the AFL and now wariness to do deals from other clubs. The Tippetts were simply doing the best they could with the compliance of the AFC.Who could blame KT for not wanting to go to GWS and grabbing the chance to win a Flag and get good money at the Swans.I think GWS would be unlikely to grab him given their abundance of good young KPP,s and the attitude of KT.

The Swans are in the luxurious position of not having a problem with a few games suspension if a penalty is applied to KT.We won the Flag without him and can win it again without him.

Whatever we do,the hatred of other supporters for our club will intensify as they will perceive our deserved success as contrived. They will not acknowledge the brilliant recruiting, the superb player management, the player effort and good coaching that won us the Flag and made us such a desirable location for KT.

I'm with you Cherub, the only fallout I believe we will get is the usual larger cap crap that we have had to put up with for years and years now anyway.
We'll cop a hell of a lot more if the review on the COLA comes out in our favour (and by all accounts it should), then we are going to be hounded with the AFL love child taunts we had to endure after the 05 victory.

On a side note, I do love opening the footy page on The Age website and seeing that AFL Scorecard banner two months after that wonderful day, still brings a smile to my face!

I don't want to start a competition, but I really rate Greg Baum and Martin Flanagan.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Great article but I dont really see how this damages us in any way. We offerred our first round pick and a fringe 22 player from a premiership side. It annoys me how the melbourne media could question that offer as legitimate when the suppossed original deal was a second round pick. After all this guy isnt tony lockett.

It also amazes me how supposed intelligent and savvy individuals (although I know that doesnt always come with the territory for football executives) do not realise that almost any email isnt truly deleted once created and sent and in most organisations sits backed up on a server somewhere waiting for investigations like this to come along.
