Nice. From the swans article posted earlier.

Renowned for their strong culture, it has been suggested Tippett's arrival and impact on the Swans' salary cap may not wash with the premiers' crop of stars.
Swans great Michael O'Loughlin says the star forward would need to earn his place in the side, just like every other player. "He'd be a great addition, but he'd really have to earn the respect and trust of the players who have been there for a long time," O'Loughlin said. "That's something everyone has to earn who pulls on the red and white."
Me thinks there are rumblings amongst the player group.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

What would Goodes be on now ?

I think Goodes form the last few years would barely be above Tippetts !

"Privy to the financial structure of the Swans"....please.

In order to get to Sydney, he had to price himself out of reach of all others....Which it seams he has.

Obviously I don't know any details but I think we can all hazard a guess that he's getting somewhere between $700k and $900K, per year.

That's a lot of the cap on one guy who ,at this stage in his career, plays more like a $400 - $500k player....

And yes, even at $700k, that puts pressure on our cap. And will make it a whole lot harder to retain all our top 22 players.

We now have a team of premiership players, and don't think that will be lost on their respective managers when their next contract negotiations come around.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

            Tippett?

The koala is right. In the next few years Some very Good players will have to accept less than other teams will be willing to offer them to stay at Sydney. Most probably wouldn't have a problem doing that , but some may feel disgruntled that some cowboy has strolled in and soaked up all the cap space that would've allowed them to be retained on a fair salary in terms of market value. Fair enough too.

Has anybody seen the latest list lodgement that was due with the AFL at 2 pm today? It will indicate which clubs have room to participate in the PSD.

I forgot how much Travis Cloke settled for, but I think it was around the same that Tippett will get. I think the expectation is that he will be the sort of dominant forward that Cloke can be. But, of course, even Cloke has had a lot of down days and has come under much criticism from C'wood fans because of it. I would suspect that if Tippett is going to be paid like a Cloke, Riewoldt or Buddy, then expectation is that he will perform in that class as well. If he does, I think all will be fine with both players and fans. If not, he can expect the full force of RWO brutality.

Well Riewoldt couldn't win st Kilda a flag, Buddy couldn't kick straight this year, Cloke is ok but I would prefer Tippett, I watched him a few years ago and wished we had him then. I think that playing a ruck forward role is detrimental to the forwards that play that role, Dawes and Cloke were formidable until Dawes had to play in the ruck, same with Roughhead and Buddy, lets see how Dawes goes this year as a forward for Melbourne. I think if Tippett plays as a forward and not a ruck he too will be pretty great and I for one am looking forward to seeing Sam and Tippett play together.

I think Tippett's terms are pretty close to Mitch Clark?

I know that I expect Tippett to perform at the same level as Mitch Clark and Travis Cloke, so if he does, I would have to say that his compensation is fair, since that's the market value for a dominant tall forward. The Swans footy department must think the same; they're not stupid. When in doubt, we've got to back them.

I'm much more inclined to believe the faceless naysayers here than I am the Swans staff.

                        Tippett out!

I'll be happy to allow KT a few games of non-performance. In fact, I shall allow him 11 next year

I consider that we may have the better deal when compared to Cloke and Clark assuming Sydney is where he finishes up!

Tippett need to be accepted by the playing group also IMO

What!! See the last quarter of GF. When I see KT on one leg manage to be pivotal in getting the Swans over the line in a GF, then I will rate his value to the Swans as being in the same league as that of Adam Goodes. I note that you said 'form' not 'value' but how many goals did KT kick for Adelaide this year? How many did Adam Goodes kick for the Swans? And AG was out for 5-6 weeks! I admit that I did not see KT's game against the Hawks where he is said to have starred but I did see his game against the Swans where I didn't even notice him.

Micky O's article in the Telegraph is very interesting. He has a message for KT from a former 'Blood', that if he does indeed get to the Swans will have to prove himself like everyone else and win the trust of the established players.

I hope in fact that that will be the case, that he will be 'the knight in shining armour' that many are hoping he will be and that when he gets to 32 years his record will be as good as that of AG but to suggest that his form for the Crows over the past few years has been around the same as that of AG for the Swans, is slightly, well, offensive - at least to me.
