Plus the team still needs to work out a functioning forward line that includes Tippett - ie alternatives to just bombing it long to him all the time, with several defenders hanging off him. They need as much practice as they can get, especially against two excellent sides with very good defences. These are the teams we need to beat in September.

Kurt's also equal 6th in the comp for contested marks per game with 2.1, Mike is equal 8th with 2 and then Jesse is now equal 20th with 1.6.

The new stats info with the advanced detail on the AFL website is great! One minor bit that confuses me is that there's no filtering of the averages lists based on number of games etc., so if you looked at the NBA site they usually by part way through the season are filtering by default on only guys who have played > either 50 or 40% of possible games so far (or something like that) and then you can turn that filter off if you want. Not saying the AFL should mimic having it on by default, but it'd be cool to add something along those lines as a quick filter option. When you quickly look at the top 10 right now for average contested marks there's a couple of guys who've only played one game.

I realise it probably doesn't matter that much (and it would most likely rule Kurt out when looking at it!), and I guess highlights the difference between two comps where the leading goalkicker is determined in the AFL based on how many total goals in a season (and I'd like it to stay that way!) whereas in the NBA the leading scorer is determined by average points per game.

Yep, and I do feel at times they're slowly getting there the longer they play together so it's crucial they stick with it the next couple of games. It was nice to see Jed find some space and take a couple of marks in the forward 50 yesterday, I think we need that medium sized forward in there working the gaps.

I still remember Nick Davis having a big of hamstring tightness pre an ANZ game but being selected to play anyway. Five minutes later he was gone for more than a month. The Swans only nearly always get it right on the medical front and I'd really like Tippett around for finals. So if they say "rest" it's fine by me - and it'd give the team a chance to remember how to share goal scoring around (or it's Jesse's time to shine).

Oh, and wasn't it five minutes before the end of a R22 match when the commentators were saying "time to get MOL off and in cotton wool" when he was injured and out for finals, too?

Yes he does but whatever works for him is fine by me and even his harshest critics would have to admit that, particularly over the last three weeks, his kicking has been wonderful.

Given that we seem destined for 4th, it's a perfect opportunity to test out a few different set ups against quality teams to see what works.
Not suggesting that we settle for 4th or that we shouldn't care about winning the games, just that the emphasis can be on gaining new tools which can be used in the finals.
Resting Tippett for a quarter will allow us to figure out other dynamics of what may throw out the opposition set up.

Tippett is leading the goal-kicking too! 3.4 per game from Cameron and Kennedy on 3.2. If he had played 20 games he would be leading the Coleman by 12....just to put some perspective on that....on his way to 79.2 for the season!

                  Goals
                  Tippett 1st 3.6
                  Cameron 2nd = 3.2
                  Kennedy 2nd = 3.2
                  Cloke 4th 3.1
                  Franklin 5th = 3.0
                  Roughead 5th = 3.0
                  J. Riewoldt 7th 2.8
                  Hawkins 8th 2.5
                  Petrie 9th = 2.3
                  N. Riewoldt 9th = 2.3

Also 2nd in inside 50 marks 3.4, behind Cloke 2.4.

                  Marks Inside 50
                  Cloke 1st 4.6
                  Tippett 2nd 3.6
                  J. Riewoldt 3rd 3.3
                  N. Riewoldt 4th 3.2
                  Waite 5th =3.1
                  Kennedy 5th =3.1

                  Contested Marks
                  Casboult 1st 2.6
                  Cloke 2nd 2.4
                  Waite 3rd = 2.2
                  Lynch 3rd = 2.2
                  Tippett 5th = 2.1
                  Henderson 5th = 2.1
                  Pyke 7th 2.0

Believe it or not he is 5th for goal accuracy amongst the top 10 forwards at 62.7....

                  Goal Accuracy
                  Hawkins 1st 71.4
                  Cameron 2nd 64.5
                  Kennedy 3rd =63.2
                  Roughead 3rd =63.2
                  Tippett 5th 62.7
                  Petrie 6th 61.3
                  J. Riewoldt 7th 52.8
                  N. Riewoldt 8th 51.8
                  Franklin 9th 51.0
                  Cloke 10th 47.2

Hawkins GA is skewed by not being able to bend over so he doesn't have the flying half chances that others do!!

I spoke to Tipoff about the Coleman outside the rooms at the end of the game. He laughed and promised that he'll get it for me next year.
I also told him that he plays better for us than he ever did at Adelaide.

I was saving it for page 200... but you guys were taking forever.

When there's three guys around Tipoff... there are three free swans.
Very, very predictable kicking into the 50.
Shadows of barry-centric. They've gotta take a millisecond to look at a second option - from where I sit, there's normally at least one.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I do want to point out something of great importance. Hasn't Tippo got a great face! Its kind of fascinating to watch in all its various expressions.

And the other thing I want to point out is his teammates reactions to him. It looks like they like him as a person big time. Always a very good indicator of approval rating within the ranks, and it looks to be high.

I think of his face as boyish. I suspect that his sheer size is the only thing preventing the label "baby-faced assassin".
And yes, as far as we know, what's not to like?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

My three twentysomething daughters would certainly agree with your face comment Prims, and they (and their mother) don't think the rest of him is too hard on the eyes either!

Exactly right Jewels! But Rhyce is the one nominated by all of the boys when asked who they would call if they were in trouble outside of footy, and you are right, it does speak volumes. So does the diaphram defying jumper movement Tippett displays; be still my beating......its so nice to have new eye candy isn't it.
