Nick Malceski meets with Suns as free agency period gets underway

    Emma Quayle reports that

    a) Malceski is meeting with the Suns but hasn't ruled out staying with the Swans. She notes that he has received an improved, two year offer from Sydney

    b) Swans have nominated all of Heeney, Davis and Hiscox as academy nominations for the National Draft

It's great that Membrey is talking to the Dons and Bulldogs. That means we will get something. If he was talking to Melbourne or St Kilda we could get nothing.

If Malceski gets a 3 year contract on a good deal our compensation will be stronger.

I have not lost faith in Sam Reid. If we let him go then our KPD stocks are in real trouble. The Dogs have a father / son nomination which may cost their first round.

I wonder if any business will be done with Jetta or Hanners. Ludwig has spoken about some good players coming on board in the next two drafts. Two more good first round picks to ad that group will ensure a great future.

Nothing wrong with being a trade week progressive.

Paul Roos best work as Melbourne coach was the outstanding work at the 2009 draft. Rohan, Jetta, McGlynn, Kennedy, Reid and Mumford.

Hate to say but i do agree , really we losing players we have,to keep players that couldn't win a final . Is that logical , goodesy has flaws in his game now that age has caught up with him. Its just like ROK all over. wheres the forward thinking ?

I think we need to get something for Jetta as well. he just doesn't do enough for long enough. Flash speed doesn't out do hard work IMO and there are times he just looks like he doesn't even try esp in defense..

              Any combine results for Heeney?
Petracca got 14.12 which is pretty impressive for his size.

Heeney and quite a few of the other top prospects aren't taking part due to 'injury' but in reality it's probably because they're already guaranteed to be first round choices...I wouldn't look too far into it.

hope we get all three without paying overs for Davis and Hiscox. I liked what I saw from Davis as a KPP who could go forward or back. Hiscox, needs to be our Breust type with speed and ability to burn off defenders. But are projects....

Really don't understand this baffling desire to trade Jetta. I can only assume people are solely basing this on his GF performance.

I watched him closely throughout the season and what I saw was a footballer who had markedly improved into a multi-dimensional player from his 2013 season. His tackling and 1%er work has improved dramatically thanks to some obvious preseason strengthening work. He is composed in traffic and an excellent, accurate kick especially to our forwards inside 50 (the best in the side). In other words, someone we desperately need to support our current structure.

Unlike Reid, who has been given an eternity to show his ability, Jetta actually showed what he is capable of in 2012 given the right role. Last year he was quiet but his overall season this year was very good.

I maintain that I'd like to see him take over Shaw's half-back role.

If we're going to base trading preferences on season performances rather than a single game, I think Jack and McVeigh had generally poorer seasons. Why aren't they on the table for trade discussions?

Dogs want both for two second rounders..... They are wanting to upgrade their pick 5/6 to a top three pick for one of the young KP talls.
I think Goodes staying on has meant that Membrey is moving on, this may hurt us down the track....

Jetta wouldn't get a first round pick based on GF.

There seems to be a reluctance to pay the right amount for players, look at last year and how we got nothing for our fringe players.

I agree with this and am amazed that they have not been in the gun sights, their WHOLE year was not up to their usual standard, not just the GF.

Couldn't agree more, the bloke was a liability this year and will be an embarrassment next year.

We now have our own red and white sacred cow, what the hell is going on at our club right now?
He was being careful throughout the year and his finals series was very good in all three games. I think he will go full speed into next year and will make many eat their words.
I was a doubter, but the finals showed me the glimpse of a player than could go on. I have more questions about our captains than our former captain.... (still sad about impact on Membrey though)

                        This.
Everyone acknowledges we were beaten by a team with superior foot skills (only part of why we lost though) and then RWOer's want to trade out one of the best Swans best kicks. We are already likely to lose Eski, we can't afford to lose another great boot. Our two best kicks into the F50 are Jetta and Franklin. If Jets goes does Franklin kick to himself?

An actual preseason may help that too.

How good is that? That is just on Jake Lloyd's 15. Petracca must be seeing Jimmy as well. Good speed (Hiscox pace), good endurance, wonderful vertical leap, outstanding size and power, great marking ability and sound skills.

Let's get him in. I can live with Hanners getting $700,000 - $900,000 a year at the Saints. I'm sure he can live with that as well.

If we Petracca, Heeney, Mills and Dunkley we will have the greatest collection of emerging midfielders since "The Baby Bombers" of the early 90.

                          This is just my opinion.

You've got stars in your eyes....Not 1 game between them yet.

Going on history, the chances of all 4 of these guys going to be stars is minimal.

Hannebery is a star, with at least 8 years still ahead of him.

You don't trade stars for maybe's unless you have to. From what I'm reading we certainly don't have to.

As an example...Scully looked a world beater when drafted, turned out to be servicable...There are no guarantees with under 18 players.

Jack did have smashed ribs for most of the year (also the early back issue that i suspect was one and the same)

The Swans have nominated three players ? Isaac Heeney, Abe Davis and Jack Hiscox ? as Academy selections ahead of Friday's deadline and Monday morning's bidding meeting.
