I think you people are kidding yourself with a first round pick for Jetta for one reason; both team finished finished first and second, do they really have holes in their line up, do they really need a player of Jetta dubious quality??

They just don't need him, and we will be lucking to get a second round pick for him.
Jetta finished badly, but that won't worry the Eagles or Freo - either would love to have him because they know what he's capable of, and with the family pressure off his back he will, unfortunately for us, pick up where he left off. All the more reason to push for a genuine trade, because their draft pick position is even worse than ours.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I recall one Ryan OKeefe wanted a trade a few years ago , we couldnt get a deal done and he won best and fairest the next year. If I was Swans I would facilitate a move but that doesnt mean give up someone for nothing.

Still had close to his best season with us despite a few stinkers. Best ball user and has the best vision of anyone on our list. Not as flashy, no 5 bounce running goals, but arguably more effective. Pretty sure his metres gained and forward 50 entry staTs are quite high for our team. Important stats. Found a great ability to step out of tight traffic too, without having to use his pace. Will be sorely missed IMO

So if no one in WA want Jetta (and I believe this to be the case), will he just have to suck it up and play out his contract?

Really pisses me off when people are in the middle of a contract and they put their hand up for a trade. Very disrespectful.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I believe he is uncontracted at the end of the year. So we can't MAKE him stay.

            Some points in our favour:

            1. Both WA teams very evenly matched and challenging for a flag. We can play off this by asking each of them "do you want the OTHER mob to get Jetta?". Say what you will about his lacklustre last few matches, the guy has skills and pace to burn and could be the last piece in the puzzle for a team challenging for a flag.

            2. Since they will be down in the draft order, Jetta can't simply walk to the draft, the chance of being picked up by a QLD or VIC team is too high. If we can't get the deal done, there's every chance he will stay, better the devil you know and all that.

            3. He hasn't nominated a preferred club so we can play them off against each other.

            4. Due to the way the academy bidding system works, we don't NEED a first rounder - we can simply ask for enough lower round picks to make up the points to get Mills, which might be more palatable for Freo or WCE.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

The second point is the main one - he can't get WHERE he wants without our agreement. So whether it's particular picks, players or whatever it is we're seeking, we should chase it as both clubs in the west sit below us in the draft and PSD, and he has made it very clear he wants to go west. There is no route through without us getting the deal we want.

It's actually now his manager's job to do our bidding for us if he's to get Lewis the outcome he wants. We won't be stupid or outrageous, as we never are, but we can be precise and firm.

I don't think it's disrespectful. It's business. Sometimes you have to go before your contract is up or you could screw yourself out of good dollars.

Paul Bevan at the end of 2010 wanted out after being over looked for a semi final despite kicking three goals in the elimination final. The Swans smoothed things over then delisted him one year later.

Had he pushed through and found another club at the end of 2010, he may have secured a two - three year contract and an extra $200,000 - $400,000 in football earnings.

Instead he stayed, had a poor 2011 and was cut.

Craig Bird must be doing everything in his power to leave the Swans. If he stays and has another year like this one, he could be delisted at the end of 2016 and not picked up again. He could earn a two year contact at another club and an extra $250,000.

Jetta may be able to earn more money at Freemantle due to the Pav, Mcpharlin and Sandilands edging closer to retirement. Money is so important for the modern day footballer. Your a long time retired and your mates in banking have longer careers.

Jetta will not have to suck it up and play out his contract because he is out of contract. He is not a free agent though, perhaps you have these concepts confused...

And he has been very respectful to the Swans and has only out his hand up after his on-field commitments have been completed for 2015

I'm not sure what your WA sources are that neither Freo or WCE want or rate Jetta - I find that very hard to believe given his ball usage and genuine pace. It's quite a contrary view to the RWO view of him - if we rate him why wouldn't the Weagles or Freo?

So, you are batting 0-3 so far...

We, of course, don't have to trade him there at any cost, but I think if possible we will try and make the trade happoen out of respect for Lewis' family situation if we can get a fair trade.

If we can't get a fair trade then we are back to a ROK situation where he has to weigh up whether he will submit to the vagaries of the PSD

My personal view is that he is worth a late first round draft pick or a player with potential (but risk) and a second rounde pick. I suspect we may get the latter option from WCE.

Pretty sure this deal will happen and we'll be satisfied with what is on offer

My perception (rightly or wrongly) is that the Swans, in recent times, are generally able to get the best out of players.
We regularly see it when 'not so valuable' players move up to the Swans and do well.
                      Richards
                      Shaw
                      Jolly
                      Laidler
                      etc

There are also instances of players moving to other teams who just don't move forward, even though they are regarded by other teams as 'stars' or as having potential
                      White
                      Malceski

I wonder if the Swans have drained the best from Jetta, and even though he has been inconsistent, we have had the best of him.

Just curious who do you think he will replace in either WC or Freo or does he just add to depth for them - given the reduction in interchange and no sub next year I cant image Lyon or Simpson allowing him to pick and choose when he wants to play - i too think we have seen the best of Lewis - no Goodes or Mickey O to offer support off field eiher - hope it works for him as i will always remember his best moments for us.

We've had a pretty good run with losing players in recent times.

First rounder for Jetta - send it to the Suns with Bird for Bennell and Z.Smith. Not sure if we're able to do that with our trade sanctions but a bloke can dream.

Jetta finally seemed to mature this year to become a complete player, but I was very disappointed in his last few games where it seems that he had mentally checked out. Maybe he would have requested a trade to WA sooner had it not been for Goodes. Now that Adam is gone, there's little keeping him here.

When I lived in New York I used to follow all the big 4 American sports. I can't recall any professional player requesting a trade due to a desire to go home. They go where they're drafted or where they get traded or get the best deal as free agents. This go home factor has crept into the landscape of AFL where it's used to circumvent the usual practices in professional sport and most of media have chimed in with their support. You would think that players were being forced to play in Bangladesh (no offence intended to Bangladeshi's). That this has been allowed to happen and accepted as normal is a great disadvantage to equalisation in respect to the northern clubs. The Swans are an exception in that we are now a destination club and attract more players than we lose. I think the PSD should be scrapped, as it gives an outlet to players that are willing to leave their club when out of contract if they don't mind going to a bottom club. These players would then have to join the regular draft, which is one of the options anyway. I'm OK with free agency, as a player has to earn some rights after 8 years with one club.

Getting back to Jetta, I believe he only finished in the top 10 in the B & F in 2012. Last year, which was comparable to this one, he finished below Harry Cunningham (10th). Maybe this puts it into perspective of where he is rated. He can be a joy to watch and is a big impact player when he's on, but can also be tagged out of games. I think he's worth between 800 and 1000 value points, which is in the pick 20 range or a couple around pick 40. With players like Heeney, Jones, Mills and Hewett coming into the side, we are heading more to being a high possession contested footy team and less dependent on slingshot tactics more suited to Jetta's style of play. I don't think he'll be missed that much.

I doubt Freo would have much interest. They have Stephen Hill already performing a similar role to Jetta (and while Jets' best is as good as Hill's IMO, Hill produces close to his best far more often and his worst is probably better than Jetta's). They also have Daniel Pearce, albeit that may only have a year or two left in him. More to the point, Freo have a need for height, with Pavlich and McPharlin fast approaching retirement and Michael Johnson getting on a bit. I suspect they are going to focus their trade efforts over the next year or two on getting some quality, experienced tall timber into their squad, to complement the less proven players they already have.

West Coast, on the other hand, don't really have anyone like Jetta and he'd enhance their team. They are also relatively well stocked for what we need, especially when the likes of Mackenzie and Brown recover from their injuries next year. If we could secure someone like Barrass, who's had a taste and done reasonably well but will know he'll be back in the queue once West Coast's injured defenders return, that would be a decent outcome (even though I'd rather Jetta stays).
