    I totally agree.

I dont think this can be passed of as silly immaturity.

He is not a 12 year old, nor was he at the time.

These days kids and young adults are schooled extensively and very very often about the permanency of their actions on the internet and social media, and how this can impact future life opportunities and careers. Therefore this sits very oddly with someone pursuing a career in AFL.

In this context the only conclusion is that he did this knowingly and that it reflects his true views.

And now an insincere apology, now that he was drafted by the Swans...

Seems to me that either the Swans have given up their no d*%#heads policy, or (more likely) they drafted a guy that they didnt do full due diligence on, after their draft bid strategy got blown out of the water by an earlier than expected bid for Dunkley.

Either way, I hope Tyrone enjoys his short time in the NEAFL before pushing the 'go home' button at the end of his contract.

I'm going to go with that we know less about talent then Kinnear so if he thinks Dunks is not the right player OR Dunks would have refused to nominate in the first place as he appeared he would !!

If we are going to peak again you would have to guess 2017 is looking good as long as we can trade in some speed to compliment our forwards mids and backs

Can't imagine the reaction here had we drafted Shane Yarran, who eventually went to Freo, who served six years in jail for a violent burglary amongst other crimes

It's not the greatest of looks for Leonardis but the responses here are not commensurate with his "crime"

if anyone should know the right steps it should be the Dr

I think he would have been disappointed if we didn't address the weakness Leonardiss view of the world and give him the chance to lift a little higher

I think Goodes would feel that way too !

I believe that players are required to spend one day a week in either study or outside work experience. I suggest the Swans instruct Leonardis to enrol in a Certificate in Indigenous Studies (which I think is what Adam studied) and/or do work experience with the OG Foundation. I would hope he would emerge a wiser young man.

              Agree completely.

I doubt there is a single one of us who doesn't hold a view - or has held a view in the past - that wasn't somewhat rooted in ignorance. It's human nature. We make snap judgements on all sorts of things without fully understanding them, or thinking them through.

Also, while I am not going to agree with anyone who expresses a view like that about Goodes, "free speech" implies we have to respect the rights of others to hold views we don't disagree with.

If he still holds such a view once he's settled into the club, and hopefully had a chance to meet Goodes, I suggest he's not going to last very long at the Swans. But if we don't believe in the possibility of him being persuaded his view was ill-conceived, then Goodes - and any one else who tries to create a dialogue about a social issue they believe in - are all wasting their time.

I think we take too much from social media. Tyrones actions should really be measured by interaction with the Swans staff, his actions on the field and how he progresses as a player and a person in the Swans family.

I'm just sick to death of execution by social media.

Mills OK, but why did we get so many points if we weren't going to use them??

Dunkley should have been match: who to say in two years he would go home? Who would prefer Gippsland to Sydney?

As for the other recruits, yet again we have recruited medium players, just like last year, from Sturt. Don't we already have Rose, Brandon etc for those positions?

Why won't we recruit Key positional players?? If it wasn't for the academy players, we would look very threadbare.

Apart from Mills, there is nothing to get exciting about; these players are the longest of speculation shots!

Dawson is 189 and still growing. he shot up from 186 to 189 this year. Could yet grow to 192-3. Might just stay at 189 too. But he is a third tall. Rose and Brandon are not that. Dunkley's disposal has been and will be an issue. It was a huge talking point before the draft. I didn't rate Dunkley in the top 25 from all the footage and reviews I saw. The experts didn't rate him top 25 because of his disposal an perceived lack of pace. We have a lot of players in his style, Joey,Parker, Mitchell, Hannas, Foote, Kizza, Lloydy, Macca, Hewett. All the same type so he would be waiting in the wings and you can add Heeney and Mills (both out/in mids).

I think our coaches looked at what we actually needed and speed and scoring ability was a priority. We have recruited for attacking footy.

Maybe not the greatest crime of the century, but the kid has to already make up some lost ground. He is 18 years old not a 12. Also he may realise that sometimes Karma comes back to bite you. A big factor for the Swans recent success, has been the no dickhead policy, people on this forum are a bit worried that this policy has now been forgotten.

Agree with the 'over reaction' camp.

Not the smartest thing to do, but it's quite obvious (to me anyway) that those 'likes' were well in the past and he had forgotten all about them. If, as he said happened, the Swans had shown interest and visited him both at home and at the combine, surely he would have been smart enough to 'unlike' those pages if he had even remembered he had liked them in the first place.

I know I personally have a much more educated and informed understanding of indigenous issues just from being a Swans fan and absorbing the whole Goodes saga, so I'm sure it will be a great learning experience for him and he will more than likely come out the other side better for it as well.

Apart from Mills, i would be surprised if the other two get a game. Father/ son selections are as rare as hens teeth - they help build a culture and tradition around a club.
father/son in the Mitchell case was really good. Barry has a very solid respect for our footy club. In the case of Dunkley, Andrew does not have the same respect. He still blames Roos for ending his career and refused to attend reunion or club events in Melbourne. He is not entirely happy for his son to come to the Swans. These would have impacted the Swans decision as well as young Dunkers not being that keen to leave Melbourne. I think we have done the right thing. Let's be honest he wasn't really that keen to come here so bugger him. We picked lads that were happy to go anywhere they could get a spot.

IMO it's a great learning opportunity for him. He's a silly kid who followed the crowd (what teenager hasn't?) and deserves a shot a redeeming himself before being sent to the slaughterhouse.
I agree. In my opinion at least 70% of Victorians think the same way he does about Goodsie. Australians are inherently racist. You just have to scratch the surface. Goodsie scratched and then tore the veneer away and exposed Australians for what they really are, intolerant bastards. This kid will learn a huge lesson from being involved with Buddy, Goodsie, Micky O, Abaina Davis & co.

My people unit at Uni was Indigenous Studies and I got a Distinction for it. I loved it so much I thought about going back and doing a Masters in Indigenous Studies. He would learn so much if he studied at UTS, Mac or Sydney. It would also help if he met the people from the AIME Network that supports Indigenous kids through High School and schools them for entrance to Uni. Every kid is matched with an AIME University student to help them develop their academic abilities. A great program, one that is hugely successful.

Clearly a bunch of perfect people here who have never made a mistake in their lives. A dumb thing to do but he's not the first 18yo sheep to be washed up in what all his mates (and a fair chunk of the population) were saying.

Many of us have been educated throughout this saga. Hopefully he's another one.
