Just because you are good for St Kilda, it doesn't mean you are good for the Swans. It means you
are good for St Kilda. Laidler, no good for Carlton, but good for Sydney.
I don't disagree with your sentiment but Laidler isn't/shouldn't be in our best 22

He was a 'list clogger' worth keeping and would have been handy, yes. As for your 'downhill' assessment of the Saints, you'll actually see them in the finals next year. Biggs was another I didn't want sent packing, and look where he sits now, playing good footy and a premiership medal around his neck.
Membrey's kicked 36 of them against bottom 8 teams, based on that its probable he would have been MIA on Saturday as well

Neither Membrey or Biggs (nor Seb Ross) would have been in our team on the weekend (nor Dunkley for that matter). caj23 has posted the breakdown of Membrey's goals. Less than ten were kicked against top 8 teams.

As for the saints being in the finals next year, that is possible but the pundits are also nominating Melbourne, Collingwood, Gold Coast, and Essendon as inclusions. That's five newies with the only team tipped to slide out of the 8 is North. So the AFL must be planning a 12 team final series next year!

That's true......the club doesn't have a crystal ball and does have a salary cap.......but it does annoy me to see them playing well elsewhere, especially when I thought they should stay. I still trust the club to make the right choices though.

The Saints will definitely be among those you mentioned in fighting for top eight spots, but I think they're are ahead of Essendon, GC and possibly Melbourne, and they'll make it. As for Membrey, caj23 makes a good point about how many goals he's kicked against top 8 sides.......can he step up? We'll see.

Membrey and dunkley would be in our grand final side. Biggs wouldnt.

Membrey would replace X, and dunkley ahead of hewett, mxglynn, mvveigh (if not captain)

Don't be ridiculus, Bazza. Dunkley's not a forward and Membrey's too short for to be a KF and as slow as treacle to be a small forward. Dunkley may turn out to be a skillful midfielder but will always be slow and Membrey's a short term solution to a non-top eight team's absence of a tall forward.

Both Goodes and Shaw played well in their final years, but we lost Membrey and Biggs as a consequence.

Well that's in the past. We need to make sure the don't make the same mistake with McVeigh. I don't know if he will be in our best 22 next year, but I would tend to play his final year in the reserves. He should also relinquish his captaincy.

There are some calls for Tippett to be traded. He's under contract, but I think if a good offer was made and he was agreeable to being traded, it should be considered.

There will be a lot of talk about our lack of depth (ostensibly because of how much we've been paying Buddy and Tippo), but most journos don't know how good some of reserves players are. They never knew about guys like Naismith, Aliir and Hewett. We've got another half dozen that are on track for AFL careers. Rose had an excellent Neafl GF and looks ready for senior footy. Newman and Foote are also ready to go next year.

The big question for us is whether we can have at least 2 out of 3 fit players from Reid, Talia and AJ. If we can, I think we will go into 2017 with a very strong side.

Brisbane were said to be interested in Towers. I wonder if they would have interest in BJ as well. I would send them both to Brisbane and our pick 35 for their pick 20. I can't see either making it with us.
I can't see Tippett being traded but he was very disappointing, I believe his contract was heavily front ended, which I truly hope is true because if we are paying him $900,000 a season next year then this deal has been a massive mistake.

Agree the ressies have some talent but not sure about Rose, 2017 will be a very important year for this kid but there is an opening for a forward. Towers to Brisbane plus pick 35 for their pick 20 would be a good deal but I'd like to give BJ one more year.

I can't see us going with less than four ruckmen on our list but I can't see us keeping Nankervis as he will be on many club radars and I also doubt if we can afford him so we'll need ti draft a good kid. I like your idea of Olango from NT.

A fit and firing Reid will be like an elite recruit and we should have some huge upside from our young bottom 6-8. I don't think we need major surgery but it will be very good if we could get a future pick in the bag for 2017 (for Mitchell) to allow for decisive action if the class of 2016 don't deliver in 2017

Helloooooo, we've just been beaten in a GF by a good team and the umpiring. Don't think we need to panic here, this is a young list with plenty of upside.

Sensible list management will do me just fine thanks!

                      +1..
dont need to throw the baby out with the bath water i agree....however i do think esp if we lose Mitchell to get some elite talent in young or older... whoever we get needs to have elite skills and reasonable pace...sometimes our disposal effiencies are so so....

what about Hamish Hartlett..could help take burden off JPK (dont want him burning out [physically)
Jack Reiwoldt gettable????(would we want him
                      Are we still after O'Meara????

All this talk about losing Mitchell. He hadn't gone yet. The club knows his value. I'm sure they'll do everything they can in the next 2 weeks to convince him to stay but if he's too costly, I trust they will have a strategy to replace him with someone who is as important to our list management.

Tom Mitchell wearing a Swans Tshirt today at Mad Monday. Personally I think his preference is clear, to remain a swan. I also think the clubs intent is to keep him. Probably just waiting to do the right thing by existing players first. McGlynn will not be offered a new contract. Towers and Harry C on the trade table. Don't forget Ted R also announced his retirement after talks with TM were placed on hold.

Hawks look to be into Ty Vickery to backfill Roughead. Possibly looking at him doing a Tippett role for them too. I think they feel Mitchell is an outside chance for them.....like Parker "I hope he stays"

                            TPP announcement

I wonder if the AFLs TPP announcement is being held up by Tom Mitchell's contract negotiations?

I hope the mood at Mad Monday picked up from the photos that I saw. The general mood looked to be along the lines of: earthquake survivors wondering if their trapped relatives have any chance of being rescued.
